About Our Client

Our client is a prominent UK Law Firm. With more than 400 employees, they serve a diverse range of clients specializing in Litigation based in London. They are a disputes-only firm.

Job Description

The key responsibilities of the Associate International Arbitration (Spanish Speaking) will be as follows:

  1. Takes initial instructions, establishing suitability of the matter by undertaking preliminary research and reviewing documentation.
  2. Maintains regular communications with clients, solicitors, supervisors, and others in meetings.
  3. Explains fee structure and ensures client is kept apprised regularly of changes in any estimate of fees, providing advice at all stages, pre and post proceedings.
  4. Prepares memorandums of advice.
  5. Drafts statements of case, witness statements, application documents.
  6. Drafts and takes forward inter-partes correspondence.
  7. Selects and instructs experts and counsel (where needed).
  8. Takes the lead on disclosure and disclosure-related workstreams.
  9. Assists with final evidentiary hearings and interim application hearings, as well as with court hearings.
  10. Demonstrates relevant experience with ADR.
  11. Prepares cost estimates and cost schedules and conducts cost assessment proceedings.

The Successful Applicant

A successful Associate International Arbitration (Spanish Speaking) should have:

  1. Minimum 2:1 undergraduate law degree or non-law degree with applicable post-graduate law qualification, with commendation at LPC or SQE (and/or equivalent foreign law qualification).
  2. Spanish language skills (fluent).
  3. A current practicing certificate.
  4. 1-2 years PQE.
  5. Prior experience working in an international arbitration department of a reputable law firm - foreign law firm experience will be considered but the ideal candidate will have obtained English law qualification and gained experience working at a law firm in the UK.
  6. A sound grasp of contract law, tort law, and more general commercial law.
  7. A high degree of familiarity with the 1996 Arbitration Act and the rules of key arbitration institutions such as the ICC, LCIA, SIAC, DIFC.
