Job description

We are looking for an Associate Engineering Geologist to join our team in the Midlands. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious individual to join and take a senior role in our Land Quality Team in the Midlands, part of Tetra Tech's 100 strong Geo-Environmental and Mining Business Unit.

Our Geo-Environmental Team comprises 3 core disciplines: Ground Investigation, Land Quality, and Groundwater & Geothermal, delivering our services to a broad range of private clients and the public sector, working on a variety of challenging projects and sites, often with colleagues in multidisciplinary teams. You will be responsible for developing clients and providing consultancy support for clients such as Harworth Estates, Homes England, MOD, Water companies, and National Highways.

About You

You will be experienced and knowledgeable in current practice and governing standards/guidance for geotechnical ground investigation and interpretation. You will be keen to develop new and existing clients and ideally have some experience in such business development. Ideally, you will have some knowledge of contaminated land assessment.

You will be self-driven and ideally a Chartered Geologist or Chartered Engineer.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Driving business development activity to secure new clients and develop and nurture existing client relationships.
  • Working closely with other disciplines and other offices across the north and Midlands to develop and implement key client engagement plans and to deliver work.
  • Preparing bids and fee proposals.
  • Project and financial management.
  • Leading on the design and oversight of ground investigations.
  • Writing and reviewing geotechnical reports (desk studies, interpretative reports, etc.).
  • Writing and reviewing earthworks specifications.
  • Reviewing contaminated land assessments and remediation strategies (if experienced in this).
  • Line management.
  • Mentoring, support, and training of junior members of the team.
Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • A relevant degree (e.g., geology, engineering geology).
  • Chartered membership of appropriate professional body (preferred).
  • Detailed knowledge of market conditions, opportunities, competition, and client base in the Midlands.
  • Substantial experience in engineering geology/geotechnical assessment from desktop review stage through to interpretation, including slope stability assessment, foundation recommendations, dewatering, etc.
  • Experience in managing and supervising ground investigations.
  • Ideally, experience in contaminated land assessment and remediation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and fully IT literate as you will be required to write clear, concise, and technically robust reports.
  • Good understanding of health, safety, and environmental management, as applied to ground investigation.
  • A team player with strong social, interpersonal, and communication skills.
