An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Renal trained Nurse with senior leadership experience to join this well established team at the South West Thames, Renal & Transplant Centre. The service is a Renal Tertiary service supporting SW London and Surrey. It consists of inpatient, outpatient, Home therapies and supports 9 Dialysis units across Surrey.

The post holder will work collaboratively with the Director of Nursing to provide high quality, strategic, professional and visible nursing leadership. Advising and supporting on Divisional Nursing issues across the service will be a main requirement of the role. The post holder will also work collaboratively with the Corporate Nursing services. Experience of managing workforce and budget is essential to this role, as is the ability to be responsive to the ever changing NHS landscape.

The Renal service is currently planning for future integration with Renal colleagues at St Georges, with an exciting new building on the St George’s site. The role will require the ability to lead, manage and support change and the vision to design patient pathways to achieve excellent, high quality pathways for our patient population. The ability to work across and at off site services is essential where services cover a large geographical area.

Main duties of the job

  • Work with the Director of Nursing and Divisional Medical Directors to meet the division’s key performance targets, leading effective and efficient delivery operational and clinical services with particular emphasis on effective clinical care, as well as implementing the strategic, financial and operational plans and efficiently deploying the resources of the Directorate.
  • Lead on clinical efficiencies and service improvement programmes, thereby raising standards of practice, productivity and value for money.
  • As part of the directorate senior management team, the Associate Director of Nursing will alongside the Director of Nursing to support the delivery of quality governance for the Division. They will support the improvement and strengthening of quality of care (patient safety, patient experience and clinical effectiveness) by working closely with local governance leads. A key part of the role will include ensuring the delivery of CQC standards and to work with the Director of Nursing, Director of Operations and Medical Director to move the services in the Division to a continuously improving CQC rating.
  • Be a key lead professional for all nursing teams in the Division and be an advocate for patients, families and carers in the achievement of clinical excellence. Locally the post holder will lead on optimising and strengthening the role and responsibility of nurse within the Division and on nursing workforce resilience and succession planning.
  • Lead by example, ensuring that leadership is visible and role models the values of the Trust and that they maintain a strong clinical presence across the Division, keeping up to date in their own field of practice.
  • Lead on the delivery of excellent nursing care to ensure that local objectives align to the Trust’s nursing and midwifery strategic priorities and take a Trust lead on one or more of the corporate nursing priorities.
  • Champion strong collaboration across clinical pathways and ensure the engagement of other Divisions to maintain flow across the hospital and wider local system.

Qualifications & training

Essential criteria

  • Renal course or equivalent
  • 1st level degree
  • Evidence of significant continuing professional and leadership development.
  • Recognised teaching and assessing certificate
  • Registered Nurse

Desirable criteria

  • Masters degree or working toward

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Substantial Renal experience at Senior level
  • Substantial experience and achievement in a senior clinical nursing role.
  • Substantial experience & understanding the delivery of Quality & safety in the clinical areas, including identifying and managing risk
  • Substantial experience of managing workforce and budget
  • Evidence of delivering complex change, involving wide engagement.
  • Demonstrable experience of people management including experience of chairing capability / disciplinary hearings.

Knowledge & skills

Essential criteria

  • Ability to demonstrate expert clinical knowledge.
  • Significant budgetary experience and demonstrable experience of achieving financial savings without compromising clinical care.
  • Ability to analyse complex information and provide a range of options to share information to the wider team.
  • Ability to effectively manage resources to deliver sustained improvement.
