Job Description:

The University of Southampton is seeking to appoint an Associate Director of Engineering.

The University of Southampton is a leading research-intensive university, a founding member of the prestigious Russell Group, and one of the top 100 universities worldwide. We deliver an excellent educational experience and world-leading research, and we are known for successfully commercialising our research through enterprise.

The University has a diverse estate, property, and land portfolio spanning several campuses, including the main Highfield campus, the City Centre Campus, Avenue Campus, the Boldrewood Innovation Campus, and the Winchester School of Art. The Estates & Facilities Team ensures that the University has a built and physical environment that supports the activities of a world-class university, across a portfolio of academic, state-of-the-art research, clinical, enterprise, workspace, residential, social amenity, sport, and community facilities. Ambitious plans are afoot with an estates masterplan that will see £1bn of investment in enhancing and delivering a sustainable, inclusive estate over the next decade.

The role is responsible for leading optimal, cost-effective, and sustainable delivery of all engineering, operational maintenance, and repairs services to all University-owned and run buildings in the UK, including reactive and planned maintenance and some minor works. You would provide strategic and technical leadership in the built environment of the University’s assets, acting as Duty Holder and managing the delivery of engineering infrastructure services, energy procurement, and carbon management to optimal levels of cost and quality. In addition, you will form a liaison or “bridge” role to Estates Development in the context of major capital planning and implementation.

This role will suit exceptional candidates with a track record of managing large diverse estates operational teams and outsourced contracts. You will be adept at prioritising and providing exceptional customer service all within budget. To be a success in the role, we are seeking an individual with outstanding stakeholder engagement and team leadership skills, who is results-focused and customer-centric in approach.

The candidate briefing pack can be viewed at Associate Director of Engineering.

To arrange a confidential discussion, please contact the University’s retained advisor Michael Hewlett at MRG.

Closing date for applications is Sunday, 27th April.

Therefore, we particularly encourage applications that will continue to strengthen the diversity of our governing body. We are a Stonewall Diversity Champion and are immensely proud to have been awarded an institutional Athena SWAN silver award, which underpins our pledge to improve equality for women.
