Our client are looking to bring an Associate Director of Ecology into a new team based in Glasgow.

This role offers the chance to contribute to diverse areas based on your skills and interests, including cutting-edge surveys, data handling and reporting, business development, project management, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and guiding the team on Biodiversity Net Gain. We provide a supportive atmosphere with internal and external training and strong mentoring and coaching.

The role and responsibilities:

  • Take charge of planning and delivering ecological contributions for both our internal teams and external clients.
  • Create and technically review various ecological assessments, such as initial ecological surveys, protected species reports, ecological impact assessments, Habitats Regulations Assessments, and Biodiversity Net Gain calculations.
  • Offer expert guidance to ensure we find sensible and practical ecological solutions.
  • Direct communication and collaboration with clients and important project stakeholders, including planning departments, official environmental organisations, and the public.
  • Be a driving force in enhancing our technical skills and promote the integration of new ideas and research.
  • Oversee the creation of proposals and bids for our ecological services.
  • Guide and support the professional growth of both less experienced team members and colleagues at the same level.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a degree (or equivalent qualification) in ecology or a related field.
  • Be a member of a relevant professional body and actively working towards or already holding Chartered Ecologist or Chartered Environmentalist status, AND possess protected species survey and/or mitigation licenses.
  • Have a strong understanding of relevant UK wildlife laws and policies, along with excellent report writing abilities.
  • Demonstrate experience in leading and managing ecological surveys, licensing applications, and impact assessments (relevant to your specific areas of expertise) through suitable professional experience.
  • Possess experience in managing projects and their budgets, leading discussions with stakeholders, and participating in bidding and tendering processes.
  • Have experience in reviewing and verifying technical work and supporting the development of other team members.
