We have a new and very exciting opportunity to join the Data Insight Team within Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies as an Associate Data Engineer. This is a unique and rewarding role where you will directly contribute to making communities safer by utilising cutting edge technologies to tackle some of the most important challenges faced by modern policing.
Why this role matters?
As an Associate Data Engineer, you will influence decision making by working closely with all roles across the analytical space, creating bespoke data pipelines by using Python programming skills and database knowledge to build out force data warehouses and provide better access to siloed data.
Using your keen problem-solving skills to explore datasets and overcome complex data pipelines using modern tools and skills to provide a robust and accountable data platform for all levels of analytics.

What are we looking for?
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and skills in Data Engineering and keen to apply this to policing data. Knowledge of Python and SQL (MSSQL) or similar languages with a willingness to develop and grow. Strong problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset with the ability to work independently and as part of a larger team. Excellent communication skills and the ability to translate complex technical processes to a range of audiences.
There is an opportunity to progress throughout the team for example moving from Associate to a Senior Data Engineer role.

The Data Insight Team have access to a dedicated infrastructure to enable both forces to get better insight from data; this consists of a dedicated Linux Machine Learning server and MSSQL Data Warehouse.
As an Associate Data Engineer, you will work with your colleagues in the Data Insight Team to drive our analytical capabilities in supporting front line investigations as well as performance and demand reporting to all business areas. This will involve using IDE’s such as PyCharm and Microsoft tools such as Visual Studio and SSMS, along with using GIT Version Control integration; the extensive use of T-SQL and SQL and the development of Docker containers.

You will be working in a small team which covers both Norfolk and Suffolk Constabularies and will report to the Business Intelligence (BI) Manager. The work is varied, dynamic and interesting, with an excellent team environment. The team now largely work from home with occasional requirements to attend the office, but agile working is available. There are flexible working opportunities along with access to the force’s sports and social club and local government pension schemes.
Hours of work are 37 hours per week Monday to Friday, with flexible working also considered. This post is offered on a permanent basis.
