Job Description:

I am currently looking for an Associate Director or Director of Business Development for a very well-regarded global clinical Contract Research Organization with a great culture and excellent proposition. They have a strong name in the market, a very low turnover across the business, and a very well-respected clinical operations team. This results in a high repeat business rate and a very strong track record across phase I-IV studies across a range of therapeutic areas, including oncology, CNS, metabolic, rare diseases, and cardiovascular, amongst others.

The role is an individual contributor covering the UK and some of Western Europe. The role comes with great visibility, reporting directly into the global head of business development, who has a fantastic reputation. You will focus on securing new business for full-service clinical trials (FSP experience is also well regarded) and working with biotechs and second-tier pharma clients whose drug development pipelines align with this CRO's value proposition and therapeutic capability. In order to be successful in this role, you will require a strong track record of hunting and managing accounts in the UK/Ireland and/or across Western European countries.

Your role will include:

  • Achieving agreed-upon sales and business development targets, creating and implementing appropriate business development strategies for identified target markets.
  • Prospecting with the goal of establishing a pipeline of sales opportunities and RFPs from potential clients; suitably qualified for competitive advantage, timing, budget, decision maker.
  • Establishing relationships with potential CRO partners that can result in RFPs that require a collaborative approach that emphasizes the strengths of each individual organization towards winning new business.
  • Meeting with potential clients on a regular basis.
  • Utilizing Salesforce to keep track of client activities including meetings and entering opportunities and updates as required to inform management of current status.
  • Leading and managing the sales process for leads generated and leads received from internal and external sources.
  • Leading the proposals development process for all opportunities and the assigned team to ensure that the strategy, budget, proposal language, and timelines match the expectations of the client as identified through extensive interactions with these clients.
  • Continually redefining appropriate and profitable market niches for business opportunities, based on evidence.
  • Providing input to the Marketing team so that they can create and implement appropriate marketing strategies that support the business development process and team.
  • Providing input to business development leadership based on territory and industry knowledge to develop sales targets, sales strategies, and sales plans.
  • Working with the team to define and implement strategies to support the sales process, including securing resources to perform pre-sales activities.
  • Engaging with agents and consultants in other geographic locations to support business development activities in those markets.
  • Engaging with internal research staff to maximize selling opportunities associated with existing travel schedules of those staff.
  • Identifying and attending appropriate conferences and trade shows to create business opportunities.
