Assistant Underwriter – Retail Property

Location: London

We are looking for Underwriters across the UK who have proven experience in the Middle Market P&C segment, with an inquisitive and entrepreneurial mindset, a desire to find innovative ways to meet client needs and develop business opportunities across multiple products.

What will your role as an Assistant Underwriter include?

• Working with the Actuarial Pricing team to prepare underwriting proposals to present to the Underwriter
• Conducting research and analysis on companies, industries or locations for potential new business
• Reviewing renewal proposals and endorsement requests for existing business
• Ensuring all underwriting activities are documented on the underwriting systems to the required data quality standards
• Preparing monthly reports on underwriting activity
• Building an internal network to support sharing of information and data between functions

You will report to the Underwriting Manager.

As an Assistant Underwriter you will be working toward building your Underwriting experience. Having some of the experience and skills below will help:

• Ideally you will have an understanding of the fundamentals of the Insurance industry
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Desire to learn, build skills and learn how to manage the underwriting process
• Ability to use analysis and reasoning to work through information and reach a reasoned conclusion

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree preferred and experience in insurance with a focus on delegated authority onboarding and due diligence.
• Experience conducting detailed due diligence and operational set-ups within an insurance context.
• Customer first approach with experience in improving customer journeys, particularly within a governance or control environment.
• Excellent understanding of regulatory requirements and compliance, for example Lloyd’s and the FCA.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage onshore and offshore relationships, including a combination of landlord and managed service resource.
