Internship Exploring General Business & Beyond

The Office of the Legislative Auditor (OLA) is now accepting applications for an assistant special reviews auditor (student worker) within the Special Reviews team. OLA conducts nonpartisan research on a wide variety of public policies, programs, and state agencies. In this position, you will work in a small team under the direction of a supervisor to contribute meaningfully to our special reviews while developing your research and communication skills. Job Duties

  • With training and assistance from senior staff, assistant special reviews auditors will contribute to conducting special reviews, which may include:
  • Performing research tasks, such as:
  • Writing memoranda and creating graphics to communicate research results.
  • Verifying the accuracy of analysis performed by other special reviews auditors.

Minimum Qualifications

To be considered, a candidate must submit a cover letter and must be a student working toward a bachelor’s or master’s degree—with anticipated graduation in the fall of 2025 or spring of 2026—in accounting, business, economics, finance, the social sciences, public policy, or another relevant field. A candidate must also have:

  • Training or experience in accounting and auditing OR training or experience in one or more research methods, such as:
    • Data organization and quantitative analysis
    • Interviews
    • Literature reviews
    • Legal analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access).
  • The ability to work effectively with people who have a diverse range of perspectives.
  • The ability to conduct objective, nonpartisan research on complicated topics.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, the ideal candidate will also have experience and knowledge in one or more of the following:

  • Critically evaluating compliance with legal requirements, including laws; federal regulations; and state rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Collecting information through interviews and written inquiries.
  • Experience cleaning and critically analyzing large demographic, economic, and/or financial data sets.
  • State government and the legislative process.
  • Obtaining and handling sensitive information.
  • Interacting with the public verbally and in writing about sensitive or controversial issues.
