Job OverviewThis is an exciting opportunity to help shape TfL and set us up to deliver on our vision of being the strong green heartbeat for London. We are looking for a candidate to join our Sustainability and Corporate Environment team. The focus of the role will be to contribute to, and lead on key elements of, TfL’s corporate work to adapt to climate change.
Following the publication of our first ever Corporate Environment Plan (CEP) in September 2021, we recently produced TfL’s most detailed and comprehensive climate risk assessment to date, as well as TfL’s first Climate Change Adaptation Plan. These are an important step forward on TfL’s journey to build capability and capacity on the climate risk and adaptation agendas so that we take action to improve our performance, manage risks and transform our assets and services so they are resilient to climate change.
The role holder needs to have good organisational awareness, with demonstrable analytical and project management skills, as well as being a good communicator able to quickly build positive relationships with key stakeholders across and outside the business.
Key Accountabilities- Champion the Corporate Environment Plan and Adaptation Plan across the whole business.
- Support the business to deliver on activities to better understand our climate risks and improve our climate risk management.
- Support the implementation and monitoring of TfL’s Adaptation Plan actions.
- Build a network of internal and external contacts to share best practice and identify collaborative projects.
- Contribute to TfL engagement and collaboration with external stakeholders on the green infrastructure and biodiversity agendas.
- Develop ideas for performance improvements, working with the business to evaluate and prepare business cases.
- Be a role model for diversity and inclusion, driving change within the function and influencing to positively affect the whole directorate and beyond.
- Be a champion and advocate for safety, health & environment in everything they do.

KnowledgeEssential- Knowledge of environmental management regulations and the issues TfL faces.
- Knowledge of designing and evaluating initiatives to improve corporate environmental performance.
- Strong understanding of the political framework in which TfL operates.
Desirable- Knowledge of how to form strategy and progress it into action in a complex organisation.
- Knowledge of management systems.
- Membership of relevant professional body e.g. CIEEM, IOSH, IEMA, CIBSE.
- Related degree or equivalent qualification.
SkillsEssential- The ability to develop credibility and influence stakeholders.
- Strong ability to work in a highly pressurised environment to very tight time constraints and high quality.
- Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills, with a proven ability to write strategic and analytical reports.
Desirable- Ability to set policy frameworks.
- Ability to initiate and effect business and behaviour change design.
ExperienceEssential- Experience of achieving changes in environmental behaviour and performance.
Desirable- Experience of setting visions and ambitions in large complex organisations.
- Experience of influencing senior discussions around the shape of the business.

Fixed term contract/Secondment opportunity for 12 monthsAs a fixed term contractor, we can offer you a choice of pension arrangements.
