Assistant Psychologist - Eating Disorders Team

We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Band 5 Assistant Psychologist to join our specialist CAMHS Eating Disorder team in Portsmouth, on a fixed term 12-month contract. This is an exciting opportunity to gain valuable experience working with children and young people experiencing eating disorders, as well as their families, within a dynamic and supportive multidisciplinary team.

You will work under the supervision of a qualified psychologist to deliver evidence-based care, assist with assessments and interventions, and contribute to service development. This role provides an excellent opportunity for psychology graduates seeking to enhance their clinical skills and knowledge before pursuing further training, such as Clinical Psychology doctorate programmes.

Main Duties of the Job

  1. Assist in the psychological assessment, formulation, and intervention for children and young people with eating disorders under supervision.
  2. Support the delivery of evidence-based interventions, including psychoeducation, FT-AN, group work, parent groups, and individual sessions, as directed by a qualified psychologist.
  3. Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team including psychiatrists, paediatricians, dietitians, family therapists, nurses, and support workers to support patient care and recovery.
  4. Undertake audit, research, and service evaluation projects to inform best practice within the team.
  5. Participate in team meetings, supervision sessions, and training to support professional development.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology (1st Class or 2.1)
  • Additional specialist training related to working with children, young people, and their families and carers

Experience

  • Experience, voluntary or paid, in working with children and young people (preferably experience of working with children and young people with mental health and/or additional needs).
  • Experience of working with young people who have mental health difficulties or neurodevelopmental disorders and their families/or a demonstrated interest in this client group.
  • Knowledge and experience of utilising psychological assessment including cognitive and psychometric assessments.
