Job SummaryAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to join the Acute Adult Mental Health Wards at Lanchester Road Hospital in Durham.
This post is offered on a permanent and full-time basis, and will cover two acute adult mental health wards. You will join a welcoming multi-disciplinary team in the provision of compassionate, trauma informed care to individuals in need of acute mental health care.
The successful candidate will have a degree in Psychology. Previous experience of working as an Assistant Psychologist and delivering psychologically informed interventions to people experiencing mental health difficulties would be desirable. This is a versatile and fast paced role; you will need to demonstrate compassion, be adaptable and work with flexibility, have excellent communication skills, and have experience of working within a multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the jobThe post offers applicants an opportunity for direct and indirect work. The post holder will work under the supervision of an experienced Qualified Applied Psychologist in supporting the co-creation of MDT formulations and further assessment where needed to inform care and intervention planning. Delivery of brief psychologically informed interventions (both group and 1-1) will also be part of the role. There may also be opportunities for audit and service evaluation as well as protected time for professional development. Opportunities are available to connect with other Assistant Psychologists within Durham Tees Valley AMH directorate.

Person SpecificationQualifications Essential- Degree in psychology
- Eligible for graduate membership of the British Psychological Society
Experience Essential- Some experience of people using services in psychological, mental health and/or social care settings. This may include, for example, personal experience or supporting a family member to access services
- Experience in discussing and responding to issues related to cultural diversity, intersectionality and inclusivity, including working with vulnerable groups (e.g. those for whom English is not their first language).
Knowledge/Experience Essential- Experience of communicating sensitive information
- Experience of work interacting with the public
- An understanding of the needs and difficulties of people with mental ill health or learning disabilities
- An awareness of the application of psychology to health care
- Demonstrate an awareness of confidentiality within healthcare
