Job summary

An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Assistant Practitioner to join their Mental Health Support Teams. This role focuses on enhancing the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in schools. The successful candidate will engage in providing support, training, and evidence-based interventions, working collaboratively with educational staff to foster a Whole School Approach to Mental Health. Qualifications

  • Essential NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
  • Experience working with adolescents and in team settings.

Job Overview
Please note this is NOT an Assistant Psychology post.
The Mental Health Support Teams (MHST) are part of an exciting project funded by NHS England, Health Education England, and partners, with the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people with mild to moderate mental health difficulties in Wirral schools. The main focus of Mental Health Support Teams are:

  1. To provide support and advice to school staff through consultation and training
  2. To provide evidence-based interventions for children and young people with mild-moderate mental health difficulties on a 1-1 or group basis
  3. To support schools in their development of a Whole School Approach to Mental Health

This post will offer opportunities to experience a range of therapeutic interventions as well as learning the vital role of case management in a supportive and friendly environment. This post will include both office and school-based work (primary and secondary). It is essential that applicants already have experience of working with children & young people. Experience of working in a community-based mental health provision is desirable.

Essential Criteria:

  • NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care or equivalent

Knowledge and Expertise
Essential Criteria:

  • Knowledge of child-related legislation
  • Ability to write, implement and evaluate Treatment plans.
  • Knowledge of Child Protection workings and practice

Desirable Criteria:

  • Working knowledge of specialist therapeutic approaches, e.g. cognitive behaviour therapy
  • Knowledge of mental health issues

Experience
Essential Criteria:

  • Experience of working with adolescents
  • Experience of working in a team setting

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience of working within settings relevant to adolescents with additional needs including mental health needs.
  • Experience of working with healthcare professionals / previous experience in the NHS.
  • Experience of working in a busy and demanding environment
