About the Role

The Assistant Manager plays a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the lodge. Reporting directly to the General Manager, you will lead by example, overseeing guest experiences, managing a team of 5 direct reports, and supporting our business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

This role is accountable for guest satisfaction and profitability through the delivery of world-class service in all areas of operations and effective cost control. The primary responsibilities of this role are to manage all Heads of Departments and operational aspects at Hapuku Lodge to the required standards, within agreed budgetary limits and parameters of the law, with the main areas of focus being systems, communication and procedures as well as Human Resources and Health and Safety.

About You

We are looking for someone who thrives in a hands-on role and takes pride in delivering exceptional guest experiences.

Qualifications & Skills:

  1. LCQ and General Manager’s Certificate (essential)
  2. Minimum 3 years management experience, ideally in a luxury environment
  3. National Diploma in Hospitality/Tourism Management (level 5) or equivalent
  4. Strong understanding of hotel operations and customer service excellence.
  5. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to lead, motivate, and inspire a team.
  7. High attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
  8. Flexibility to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends as required.
  9. Knowledge of New Zealand’s tourism and hospitality industry is a bonus.
