Assistant Farm Manager – Nottingham University

An exciting opportunity for an Assistant Farm Manager to join our dairy operation at The University of Nottingham Centre for Dairy Science Innovation (CDSI) has arisen.

Our Farm

The University of Nottingham Centre for Dairy Science Innovation (CDSI) is part of the Agri-Tech National Centre for Dairy Research. Our farm covers 1,100 acres, and our herd consists of 340 Holsteins/Fresians plus followers. The herd is milked twice a day through 7 x A4 Lely robots. The herd is housed and calved all year round. You will be joining a full-time team of 10, who are all given opportunities for development and training.

Your Role

Working with the Dairy Farm Manager, this is an opportunity for an experienced person with a proven track record of working in dairy farming to high standards. Roles and responsibilities will include:

  1. Support the day-to-day running of the dairy farm operation - milking, feed management and ensuring herd health and welfare is the top priority.
  2. Provide rota cover for the Farm Manager (Dairy) and will therefore be the responsible person on site for a considerable number of days per year.
  3. Utilising the data provided and keeping compliance & records up to date.
  4. Maintain and build strong working relationships with third-party visitors, including consultants, vets and nutritionists.
  5. Working closely with the Farm Manager to develop the strategy for the farm.
  6. Ensuring the farm is kept tidy and safe to operate at all times.
  7. Farm machinery and general farm maintenance.

Qualifications & Licenses required

  1. A full UK Driving license.
  2. Proof of UK right to work.
  3. Qualified to degree/HND or equivalent in Agriculture.

You

The successful candidate will:

  1. Demonstrate previous experience in agriculture and dairy management.
  2. Be a skilled individual with a high attention to detail who can lead a team and communicate effectively.
  3. Be a confident and organised individual with high attention to detail.
  4. Previous experience operating a wide range of farm equipment.

The farm is situated in Sutton Bonington, a village lying along the valley of the River Soar in south-west Nottinghamshire. It has excellent schools, leisure facilities, shops, and pubs nearby.
