Job description

The opportunity

The Radio Society of Great Britain (RSGB) is looking for an assistant editor to join the team that produces its suite of RadCom publications and manages its news desk.

The successful candidate will be involved in everything from magazine production and sub-editing, to writing articles and planning content. You will be a core part of the editorial team, working closely with (and being managed by) the RadCom Managing Editor.

Reporting To The Managing Editor, You Will

  1. Commission articles and liaise with authors on their articles
  2. Sub-edit copy sent in by contributors and regular columnists
  3. Help to guide the content of RadCom Basics and RadCom Plus supplements
  4. Be part of the team that puts together a weekly news script
  5. Help to answer queries from members of the Society on technical and amateur radio licensing matters
  6. Help develop the entire co-ordinated RadCom portfolio, including new media opportunities

About You

You will be proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office suite of applications. Knowledge and experience of using Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop are extremely desirable.

You must be positive, enthusiastic about technology and have an excellent command of English, a good eye for detail and be able to work to exacting standards, often under pressure. A wide range of radio and electronic knowledge, including amateur radio, is desirable.

This staff position is based at RSGB headquarters near Bedford, although an element of working from home could be discussed. The salary is negotiable depending upon relevant qualifications and experience.
