Position Summary Information:

Primary Purpose: The Assistant Director of Aquatic Facilities and Events manages the scheduling, daily operation, maintenance, athletic events, and staffing of the Pacific Aquatics Center.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates the scheduling of pool usage for intercollegiate athletics teams, campus and community functions/activities, and outside rentals.
  • Enforces policies and procedures designed to ensure the safety of pool users.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the pool is prepared for home intercollegiate events.
  • Coordinates the maintenance of the Pacific Aquatics Center with Physical Plant and the Assistant Director of Athletics for Facilities & Operations, as appropriate.
  • Recruits, trains, supervises, and schedules lifeguards and other pool staff (including Pacific Swim School staff) with the purpose of ensuring a safe pool environment.
  • Oversees the operations of the Pacific Swim School, including marketing, the registration process, providing customer service, and resolving customer complaints.
  • Maintains knowledge of effective risk management practices, including frequent interaction with the Risk Management Office, to minimize and mitigate potential risks to the University.
  • Maintains complete knowledge and compliance of rules and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics while working within the department’s rules, regulations, and policies.
  • Maintains an environment of cooperation and continuous improvement, maintaining positive communications supporting the athletic program, the University, and University staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • One (1) year of experience in pool/facility management.
  • American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification.
  • First Aid certification.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification.
  • Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification.

Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:

  • Knowledge of effective risk management practices.
  • Basic knowledge of NCAA and Conference Rules and Regulations as they pertain to student-athletes.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated management skills and knowledge of supervision and management practices.
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting.
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking. Occasional climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Requires lengthy durations of time spent outdoors. Ability to do physical tasks related to pool preparation for meets/practices. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.

Work Environment/Work Week/Travel: Work is performed in a standard office environment during standard business hours, as well as during non-regular office hours to fulfill business needs.

Hiring Range: $22.68 - $30.04 per hour. We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.
