Assistant Company Secretary

Working hours: This role is available on a part-time, job-share or full-time basis

Location: Swindon or London

The opportunity:

Become a member of the in-house UK Company Secretariat & Corporate Governance Team, providing company secretarial support to the team and annual processes, in support of the wider business or team effectiveness. The team comprises four Company Secretaries, one qualified lawyer and one Team Administrator.

Many of our employees work flexibly in a variety of different ways, including part-time, flexible hours, job share, an element of working from home or compressed hours. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time. Please talk to us at interview about the flexibility you may need.

What will you be doing?

  • Provide company secretarial assistance to Life Assurance Board
  • Support operations of other UK boards, board committees and management committees
  • Reviewing and managing constitutional documentation, preparing annual agendas, ensuring papers are of a high quality and observing in house principles and Board Intelligence
  • Leading on annual processes to support the operations of the team and wider business
  • Identification, assessment and leading implementation of regulatory and legislative changes
  • Ensuring best practice corporate governance principles are implemented in all day to day activities
  • Support the team’s delivery of Corporate Governance projects
  • Identifying ways to improve efficiency and delivery of the department through implementing key infrastructure to support the team and wider business
  • Support, manage and oversee use of Board Intelligence by the team and wider business

What are we looking for?

  • Either newly qualified or about to qualify as a Chartered Secretary or an equivalent level of professional qualification and experience
  • Educated to degree level
  • Knowledge and some experience of company secretarial work
  • Knowledge of underlying legislation and its application to practical situations
  • Able to manage relationships at all levels of the business to influence the achievement of good commercial and governance outcomes
  • Flexible and adaptable personal style
  • Organised, pragmatic and able to effectively manage shifting priorities
