Job description

NATS is the UK's leading air navigation service provider, handling over 2.4 million flights each year. We provide air traffic control services from two control centres and at airports around the UK. Job Purpose/Overview:

As an Assistant Accountant at NATS, you will work in our supportive Finance Operations team and take responsibility for non-complex, general accounting and period closing activities.

Supporting a collaborative team of qualified Accountants, you'll provide general accounting, period end closing, and reporting activities relating to multiple business areas. You'll also assist with ad hoc improvement and technical accounting projects.

Other Duties:

Key responsibilities will assist Accountants in the following areas:

  1. Budgeting and Forecasting
  2. Profit and loss preparation
  3. Balance sheet reconciliations
  4. Initial investigation of variances and trends on low-risk areas for Accountants
  5. Statutory and regulatory compliance (UK and Overseas)
  6. Audit requirements
  7. External funding
  8. Fixed assets
  9. External bid work and billing
  10. Cross company transactions

You will help to support delivery of the wider Finance vision, which seeks to shape the future of Aviation as a trusted business partner focussed on efficiency, collaboration and innovation, as well as leading by example on our values of Growth, Control and Challenge.

This role will be based at Whiteley, near Fareham, Hampshire. We offer flexible, hybrid working arrangements, depending on business need, including part-time options.

Essential Skills and Experience:

  1. You'll hold (or be working towards) an appropriate Accountancy or Finance qualification and have solid experience of working in a busy Finance environment.
  2. Motivated self-starter who is keen to learn and can think outside of the box.
  3. Working to tight deadlines with exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.
  4. Motivated by working in a highly collaborative team environment.
  5. Exceptional communication skills and stakeholder management ability.
  6. Driven and ambitious with a growth mindset.
  7. Advanced Excel skills are essential.
  8. Previous experience using SAP will be an advantage.
  9. Good collaborative working skills and capable and willing to accept joint responsibility for delivery of a high-quality accounting service to GBF and operating level business area stakeholders.
  10. Driven by working in a team environment where responsibilities, successes and failures are accepted jointly.
  11. Emerging ability to monitor a task management system and self-allocate work with assistance from Accounting Service Manager if necessary, to ensure always operating at capacity.

Additional Vacancy Information:

The end date of this Fixed Term Contract will be no later than 15th December 2025 as it aligns to an existing team member's return from secondment.
