Job summary

This role will be assist with Banking, Treasury, Control Accounts and TAX, Ensuring the timely completion of cash books reconciliations, Banking reconciliations, the reconciliation of payroll deductions and the correction application of TAX legislation.

This is a critical team within the Financial Services Department that aims to deliver strong governance, excellent service to colleague and patients and innovation to Finance. Recently winning an award 'Innovative team of the year 2024' from the Northern HFMA.

The post holder will benefit from a good understanding of Control Accounts, preparing a reconciliation, Banking and Cash Management processes, good understanding of financial procedures, experience with finance systems, Petty Cash Processes and a good understanding of NHS Tax Legislation. Experience as a team leader will be ideal in this role as you will support a team across 3 sites. This role is ideal for someone with an ambition to deliver projects to improve processes and to gain further experience in financial services.

Main duties of the job

This role will be achieved with completion of the Bank reconciliation, correct application of VAT against income, support the Making Tax Digital submission, assisting with Vat Return submission as well as the stewardship of Payroll deduction control accounts and suspense accounts.

The assistance with Cash Management processes, petty cash management and Banking Chap payments will be essential.

The role will also adopt the review and approval of band 3 control accounts to ensure they are correct, balance to the balance sheet and are completed to audit guidelines.

This role will now also adopt the team leadership role of Band 3's within the banking, treasury and cashiering team to help provide support to the current Band 5 Team Manager.

Finally, this role will require working to procedure notes to ensure the timely and accurate completion of reconciliation.

To support the day-to-day operations of the Financial Services department ensuring the delivery of a consistently high-quality service to the Trust To work flexibly as required to meet the needs of the various Financial Services Department teams. To ensure that transactions relating to the Trusts activities are processed in a timely manner. To work flexibly and actively assist in the collection or payment of monies relating to the Trusts Activities To take immediate action in any remedial adjustments required to ensure the accurate financial recording of the Trusts activities. To provide support to departmental managers and other finance staff.

To provide supervisory support to Band 3 and Band 2 Financial Servicescolleagues.

  • Accounting Technician status or be progressing towards a CCAB accountancy qualification or NVQ Level 4 in a numerate subject or equivalent experience
Desirable
  • European Computer Driving Licence qualification.
Knowledge & Experience

Essential
  • A good level of education in a numerate subject
  • Experience in a Finance Department of a busy organisation
  • A detailed understanding of accounting procedures
  • Knowledge of NHS and non-NHS legislation and how it effects own area of work.
  • A good working knowledge of financial and non-financial computer systems
Desirable
  • Previous NHS Finance experience
  • Show the ability to supervise junior staff.
Skills & Abilities
