Job description

ASD Support Assistant

Location: Walsall

Duration: Full time, on-going

Salary: £85 – £95 per day

The School/role:

An amazing special needs school in Walsall is currently looking for a full-time ASD support assistant to work within one of their many classes from ages ranging from 2 to 19 years old. The school is a community special school with students having cognition and learning difficulties in addition to physical disabilities and complex health needs. They aim to provide a secure environment where all the children’s individual needs are recognized and catered for.

This special needs support assistant for this role will have experience supporting ASD students either 1 on 1 or within small groups with their reading, writing, or maths depending upon the situation. PECS and Makaton training or experience would be suitable for the teaching assistant role but not necessary. This is a full-time post and will run until the end of the academic year.

The candidate for this role will be comfortable supporting ASD children alongside children with a range of different academic attainment levels. This will require patience, commitment, and the ability to provide a safe and welcoming environment.

The team within the school is very supportive and will help you along the way. The staff in the school aim to give the best possible educational experience for their students. This job opportunity is very rewarding for people who have teaching assistant experience.

A new enhanced DBS will be needed for this role or a subscription to the DBS update service.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teaching Assistant OR Relevant background
  • Experience in SEN
  • Immediately available
  • Level 1 safeguarding certificate
  • Relevant school-based references
  • Valid Photo ID – Driving Licence or passport
  • Full DBS – on the update service
