We’re looking for an experienced countryside ranger who’s ready for a new challenge. You’ll be working at the forefront of nature conservation and land management, managing a dedicated team of volunteers in a landscape that’s important for wildlife and loved by people.
You'll be required to work Monday-Friday, though some weekend working will be required throughout the year to provide Duty Ranger cover across the Surrey Hills (14 days per year).
Being part of the small team of three, who look after nearly 1,000 hectares of SSSI, SPA/SAC, you'll play a vital role in managing lowland heath and woodland in this corner of Surrey (your sites will include Hindhead Common, Witley and Milford commons and Hydon's Ball).
Working alongside another Area Ranger, you’ll be self-led and responsible for the day-to-day running of the sites by working to keep our visitors safe as well as managing the habitats for nature. You'll report to the Lead Ranger, who is based in the same office.
As the Area Ranger, you’ll be working as part of a small team of rangers looking after several different National Trust sites. As you develop a flexible and effective programme of work, you’ll be guided both by business needs and by the Trust’s strategy for restoring nature and enabling everyone to enjoy the countryside.
You'll play a key role in maintaining excellent standards of presentation and property maintenance, successfully achieving Conservation Performance Indicator targets. You'll build and maintain strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, consultants, tenants and neighbouring land managers.
You’ll also be responsible for helping with excellent communication of our conservation work to a wide range of audiences, both new and existing, through social media, events, guided walks and engagement with local communities. You'll appreciate the need for our countryside sites to bring in income, so your business ideas will play an important part in the team’s success and you’ll look for ways to raise funds for the Trust through innovative business ideas.
We’d love to hear from you if you’re:
