Job description

HPA Chartered Architects are seeking an Architectural Technologist, or Technical Architect, to join their practice. To sit within a comprehensive multi-disciplined team, the successful candidate will be an accomplished professional and job runner with a positive ‘hands-on’ approach.

General Role

This role is an important position within the company. In addition to the general duties and tasks required for your role, you will proactively collaborate with other members of the HPA team and external bodies. You are also expected to promote and exemplify the Practice’s core values. You will be able to tender and deliver on-site, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to the quality expectations of HPA. It will be important for you to be able to apply your knowledge of improvements in technology, legislation and efficiencies to support effective delivery.

Duties Include

The successful Architect / Architectural Technologist will:

  1. Manage and coordinate all works associated to meet RIBA plan of work 0-7.
  2. Lead in providing technical design and specification of building projects in accordance with current guidelines, standards and regulations.
  3. Execute drawings in Revit and be familiar with coordinating with other manufacturers and sub-consultants using NBS.
  4. Engage with clients to provide a high standard of service whilst being aware of commercial restraints and be confident visiting prospective clients to take a brief.
  5. Support the project management and technical delivery of complex and high-risk projects.
  6. Lead discussions on technical issues and assist with tender information.
  7. Assist in the implementation of the ISO standards and management system.
  8. Follow company standard operating procedures.
  9. Check for quality and be aware of attention to detail.
  10. Mentor junior members of the team.
  11. Demonstrate commitment to HPA Architects and our clients, which may from time to time require you to work beyond normal working hours. Professional conduct always.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience

The successful candidate will:

  1. Be professionally qualified (ARB, RIBA or CIAT) and have project experience.
  2. Have a track record for delivery of building projects.
  3. Be able to apply technical judgment and ensure projects comply with design standards.
  4. Have awareness of the NPPF and Local Policies.
  5. Be able to make Planning Applications and consult with LPA’s.
  6. Be familiar with CDM / Principal Designer Role - Essential.
  7. Be proficient in AutoCAD / Revit / Sketchup / NBS - Desirable.
  8. Be proficient in Photoshop / InDesign.
Candidate Criteria

The ideal candidate will:

  1. Be passionate about creating a better-built environment.
  2. Have proven detailed design ability and a logical design methodology.
  3. Want to deliver improvements in technology and legislation.
  4. Have a good knowledge and interest in designing efficient buildings.
  5. Have some experience of working in sensitive environments.
  6. Be confident with Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  7. Be a core part of the team to lead or provide support depending upon the project.
  8. Demonstrate professional conduct as a hard-working, professional team player.
  9. Be confident and dynamic, presentable and personable with strong presentation skills.
  10. Have an enthusiastic, proactive approach to work and enjoy continuous improvement - a keen and quick learner.
  11. Live within a comfortably commutable distance, possess a driving license and have access to a car.
  12. Be prepared to travel distances for projects when required – mostly Northwest.
  13. Be prepared to attend Networking Events on behalf of the Practice.
  14. Ideally have worked for a large practice and have commercial experience.

Hours per week:
  1. Full-time/Permanent: 9am-5.30pm Mon-Thurs, 8am-4.30pm Friday.
  2. Flexible hours/WFH days are available for extenuating circumstances but as an office we all work as part of a team, flexibly together in the office as standard.
