Job description

Job Title: Architectural Technician

Type: Permanent

Location: Cardiff

Salary: £35,000-£42,500 DOE

Hours: Full time (37hr week)


BRC are working closely with a large South Wales leading supplier of flat roof waterproofing products and solutions. Operating through a network of trained and qualified roofing contractors, they provide one of the most comprehensive flat roof waterproofing packages available in the industry backed by design services, costing advice, field support and training.


The role includes various responsibilities both in day-to-day operations and larger projects. Daily tasks involve ensuring compliance with National Building Specifications (J42, J31, and J41), conducting wind load and drainage calculations, supporting the estimating process with detailed project take-offs, creating and revising AutoCAD drawings, and providing technical support to contractors, clients, and architects.


For larger projects, responsibilities consist of managing technical literature, preparing marketing materials, coordinating with certification bodies for necessary approvals, maintaining pricing updates, fostering supplier relations, ensuring health and safety compliance, assisting distribution partners with technical inquiries, and supporting product knowledge in modular membranes, liquid-applied waterproofing, hot melt, and felt range products.


Duties:

Day to Day Work:

  • National Building Specifications: Expertise in J42, J31, and J41 standards, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations.
  • Wind Load Calculations: Conduct wind load assessments with training provided to enhance skills in this critical area.
  • Drainage Calculations: Perform drainage system calculations, with training and guidance available to ensure accuracy and best practice.
  • Estimating & Project Take-offs: Support the estimating process, provide detailed project take-offs, and assist contractors with material scheduling and procurement.
  • AutoCAD Drawings: Create and revise project-specific drawings and detailed design specifications in AutoCAD.
  • Technical Support: Respond to and resolve technical queries from contractors, clients, and architects promptly and efficiently.

For Larger Projects:

  • Technical Literature Management: Update, review, and distribute technical documentation, datasheets, and brochures, ensuring materials are current and ready for publication.
  • Marketing Materials Preparation: Assist in the creation and updating of brochures, installation guides, and posters, ensuring content accuracy and effective communication.
  • Certifications & Approvals: Coordinate with BBA, BRE, and other relevant bodies to secure necessary approvals and certifications.
  • Pricing Management: Maintain and update price lists to reflect product changes and market conditions.
  • Supplier Relations & Product Testing: Engage with both existing and new suppliers, participate in product testing, and ensure product quality meets standards.
  • Health & Safety Compliance: Support the updating of Health and Safety documentation, including COSHH and MSDS records, ensuring full compliance with legal requirements.
  • Partner Support: Assist distribution partners with technical and product-related queries, ensuring smooth operations and efficient product distribution.
  • Product Knowledge: Support product expertise in modular membranes, liquid-applied waterproofing, hot melt, and felt range products, ensuring comprehensive understanding and application.

Requirements:
  1. General knowledge of Construction / Architectural fundamentals specific roofing experience is a bonus.
  2. The ability to work under pressure, prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
  3. An attention to detail.
  4. Must be proficient in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office.
  5. Website / Photoshop skills are a bonus.
