Approved Mental Health Professional

Our Mental Health Social Care Team are looking for an Approved Mental Health Professional to join them in Harrogate and Craven.

We are looking for an Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) who will consider Mental Health Act Assessment requests as per our legal duty and respond accordingly across the county of North Yorkshire.

Your role will take you into the community, hospital and police settings with the aim of upholding the least restrictive principle. You will be part of a team focusing on the appropriate application of the Mental Health Act 1983 and other relevant legislation, working across a strong multi-agency network.

Main duties of the job

Supported by your peers and leaders you will be part of a mental health social care team. You will be expected to undertake safeguarding enquiries, complete Care Act and Mental Capacity Act assessments. The work gives you an opportunity to demonstrate your expertise and ability to work in line with legislation, policies and guidelines.

You will have the opportunity to attend monthly peer supervision, regular county AMHP forums, YAMHP and other selected training courses each year to ensure your CPD requirements are met.

Job responsibilities

1. Participate in the AMHP rota to include acting as triage, first and second responder AMHP, and undertake Mental Health Act duties appropriate to role as requested by the Directorate.
2. Subject to service requirements, you may be required to respond to Countywide requests.
3. Co-ordinate the process of a Mental Health Act assessment under Part 2 of the Mental Health Act and where appropriate make an application for compulsory admission/guardianship.
4. NYC may require postholders to undertake Best Interest Assessor training dependent on the needs of the service.
5. AMHPs will also carry out the duties of a Social Worker/Social Care Assessor Mental Health.
6. To undertake the responsibilities of the AMHP as determined by the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended by the Mental Health Act 2007) and associated legislation, codes of practice and guidance and undertaken required continuous professional development to maintain AMHP registration.
7. To work with colleagues in both Health and North Yorkshire Council (NYC) as part of a partnership providing assessment and care planning for adults with mental health conditions.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• An Approved Mental Health Professional qualification
• A professional social work qualification e.g., Social Work, DipSW, CQSW with current registration with the HCPC
• Practice Educator or a commitment to undertake the Practice Educator post graduate programme
• Best Interest Assessor qualified

£41,511 to £45,718 a year plus Market Supplement of £2,400 per annum
