Are you ready to start your engineering career? At Johnson Controls, we're on the hunt for enthusiastic individuals to join our dynamic design engineering team. Our design engineering team focuses on key projects for our Global Marine and Navy business unit. By joining Johnson Controls, you will be joining a global leader in engineering and integrated solutions.

You'll work with innovative technology and solutions and learn how to plan and effectively manage projects that protect individuals and businesses. Mentored by experienced design engineers, you'll gain real–world experience with access to top training facilities.

What You'll Do at Work

An apprenticeship with us will see you building new skills while applying your knowledge to real–world live projects. There will be plenty of opportunities to explore your potential and you'll enjoy full support from the marine team. You will be required to ensure that you adhere to safe working practices and also be able to take instructions and act upon them in a prompt and professional manner.

  • We help protect 90% of the world's top fifty marine and oil and gas companies for all types of assets and facilities. From Global navies, tankers, cruise ships, drill ships, cargo vessels, oil tankers, platform supply vessels to Mega yachts around the world.
  • During this apprenticeship, you will learn essential design concepts for all products and equipment related to our Global Marine and Navy department.
  • You will learn 2D AutoCAD design and engineering drawing concepts.
  • You will gain knowledge on fire protection calculations and system component selection.
  • You will understand fire protection engineering methods and principles related to the International Maritime Organisation and Naval requirements.
  • You will assist lead engineers with fire protection design concepts and calculations.
  • You will work closely with the broader engineering team and assist in project estimation.

You will be based from our Manchester office.

College or Training Organisation: Train'd Up

Your Training Course

You will gain a level 3 Engineering Design Technician qualification.

Your Training Plan

You will have a day release to train but this will be done remotely.

Requirements / Essential Qualifications
  • GCSE or equivalent English (Grade 5) essential
  • GCSE or equivalent Maths (Grade 5) essential
  • Full Driving licence is desirable

This exciting opportunity may involve traveling so you need to be comfortable traveling to customer sites and staying away occasionally.

After This Apprenticeship

Upon completion of this apprenticeship, there are many internal opportunities within the company. Many of our previous apprentices have become lead design engineers and take control of their own team and projects.

What We're Offering

Salary– GBP14,920. Competitive basic salary with fantastic additional earning potential and a Company Pension – Enjoy 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, uniform, personal protection equipment, and ongoing training – Earn extra with Overtime.

What's Next?

Suitable candidates will be contacted via email to provide their evidence of required certifications. Once we receive the evidence of certification you will have a screening call with a recruiter to discuss the position. Afterward, you will be invited to an assessment centre, where you will participate in a practical assessment, meet the team, and have an interview. Candidates will receive a response regarding the outcome of their application. If successful, they can expect to begin the apprenticeship with Johnson Controls in the late summer of 2025.
