Apprentice (Community Activator Coach)

Do you enjoy sport and physical activity? Are you passionate about improving people’s health and wellbeing? Then an Apprenticeship as a Community Activator Coach could be for you!

Community Activators play a vital role in improving the health and wellbeing of communities through sport and physical activity. Community Activator Coaches promote, deliver and coach fun, inclusive and engaging physical activities that communities and people can adopt to help maintain a physically active lifestyle. They are positive role models, who encourage positive changes in behaviour to make communities fitter and healthier.

As an Apprentice Community Activator Coach, you will join Durham County Council’s passionate Culture, Sport, and Tourism team, and you will have the opportunity to develop skills, knowledge, and experience in all aspects of our wellbeing programme.

Your day-to-day duties will include delivering sport and physical activity interventions safely to communities and targeted groups of adults and young children. You will use community-based approaches to create opportunities for participation in physical activity and support volunteers in developing the relevant skills to develop sustainable physical activity/coaching opportunities. You will also assist in the promotion of activities, using social media and technology to promote fitness and wellbeing. You will participate in data collection to measure the success of the wellbeing programme and support the wider Community Wellbeing team to meet performance targets. We will support you as you study towards a Level 2 Community Activator Coach.

You will also work within our indoor facilities, many of which have been updated through leisure transformation with the addition of bowling alleys, tag active arenas, and climbing walls alongside our traditional offer of swimming, gyms, and sports halls, where you will work towards gaining NPLQ lifeguard qualification and L2 gym.

If you are looking for a varied role that provides rewarding opportunities, this apprenticeship is not to be missed!

What qualification will I gain?

As part of your apprenticeship, you will study towards a Level 2 Community Activator Coach with ActivFirst, L2 Gym, and NPLQ lifeguard qualification.

What will I need?

You must either have good communication and team-working skills and the ability to enthuse others.

Please look at the attached person specification to check that you meet the essential criteria.

Please use the ‘Person Specification’ section of your application form to demonstrate that you have the essential and where possible, desirable experience, skills, and knowledge. Candidates who do not evidence that they meet the essential qualifications and experience listed on the person specification will not be short-listed.
