Job description

Job Summary

Come and Join Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust, where we offer a wide variety of challenging and rewarding roles within a supportive, innovative and dynamic work environment!

We have a fantastic opportunity for 2 enthusiastic and experienced Applied Psychologists to join our Acute Inpatient Psychology Team at the Bradgate Mental Health Unit, Glenfield Hospital.

We welcome applicants interested in this post as a Band 7 developmental role (job description for preceptorship attached) as well as applicants for the 8a post.

This post attracts a recruitment and retention bonus, and associated relocation costs will be considered.

The team provides Acute Inpatient Care to male and female working-age adults. The unit consists of 7 Acute Wards and 2 Psychiatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs). Service Users within the acute inpatient mental health service present at times of crisis, often experiencing high levels of emotional distress, and typically have complex, severe and enduring mental health difficulties. Direct clinical work with service-users involves assessing and formulating the presenting crisis, and providing formulation-driven, goal-directed standalone intervention, with good scope for creativity of approach and model application.

You will also support members of the MDT to deliver psychologically informed care, contribute to creating and maintaining psychologically safety within teams and provide supervision and mentorship to MDT colleagues.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will participate in multidisciplinary ward discussions, leading ward teams in well-attended formulation sessions that directly inform the wider approach to the service-users care.

You routinely offer reflective practice sessions to ward MDTs across the unit, and the post-holder will be responsible for maintaining this offer and running these sessions on the wards they lead on.

You will also have opportunities to develop and lead training for psychologists, as well as the wider MDTs, both informally in our regular practice development slots, and by offering training in psychological theories, models and principles and trauma informed approaches to multi-disciplinary teams across the service. You will also play an important role in supervising pre-registered colleagues within the psychology team and therefore the successful candidate will ideally be formally trained in the supervision of trainee clinical psychologists or willing to complete this training.

You will work closely with the Pathway Lead and other senior staff to support the development of structures for supervision, training and evaluation that enable a clinically effective service.

You will provide clinical expertise, so the pathway delivers holistic, psychosocial treatment including evidence-based individual psychological interventions.

You will support the communication between the team and Multi-Disciplinary Team colleagues, to facilitate the smooth transition of service users.
