Application Engineer
@Industrial Sales Europe North West (ENW)

SKF Industrial Sales Europe North West (ENW) is seeking to appoint an Applications Engineer based from its Luton office to provide technical support to OEM, Direct and Indirect End-User customers predominantly for our Core Industries (Railway, Marine, Defense, and Energy).
As an Application Engineer, you support our customers in their new developments or for the reliability of their equipment, by advising them on the best solutions. You work closely with our Product Development Services throughout the entire SKF organization. You are a key contributor to the SKF strategy, beyond the definition of a component, at enabling us to commit to the performance and reliability of the customer's systems.

You will be accountable for:

  • Technical relationship management at an engineering level for defined accounts.
  • Handling all types of technical assistance: from selection of products, application advice to complex studies, and choice of lubrication or seals, technical training.
  • Analyzing technical details of customer requirements, using manual methods, apps, and in-house software programs and to communicate these clearly and accurately to both the customer and the SKF organization.
  • Defining the specifications with the customer and advising them on defining their needs.
  • Helping customers to improve their equipment through tailored, high value-added proposals.
  • Working closely with the sales teams, to technically influence the proposed solutions to support commercial negotiations.
  • Contributing to opportunity generation and support the development of complete solutions.
  • Representing SKF and its products and services at customers and institutions through frequent visits, presentations, seminars, and exhibitions.
  • You carry out Root Cause Analysis and support Application Reviews to optimize performance of customers' engineering assets.
Main requirements:
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Good understanding of mechanical engineering principles as well as experience in engineering roles (such as design, application, service) in one main industrial sector.
  • Proficiency in Project Management, Engineering software, and MS Office.
  • Good knowledge of SKF products (bearings, power transmission, sealing, lubrication).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet targets.
  • Good commercial awareness.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Availability to travel.

This position is based at Luton, Bedfordshire (UK) on a local contract.
The position holder reports to the Application Engineering Manager Core Industries, who is located in Montigny-le-Bretonneux, France.
