Your role and responsibilities

The Data Migration Architect role involves technical design and leadership of the end-to-end delivery of legacy data migration projects. This role will involve providing technical leadership in pre-sales to support new business activities. We are looking for an experienced Data Migration Architect with a successful track record in both legacy and relational database/data migrations.

You will have the responsibility for developing the data migration solution and providing technical leadership to ensure successful delivery of data migration activities. You will lead all aspects of the data migration solution from creating the logical data model, creating the new database schema, migrating the data, testing and verifying the data is correct, resolving issues and conflicts, providing documentation, training, and handing over to support.

This is a leading client-facing role, and you will be responsible for ensuring that effective communications and relationships are maintained between the customer and project team.

Required technical and professional expertise

1. Legacy mainframe database implementation and administration experience in either IMS, IDMS, RDB, or DB2.
2. Proven relational database design, implementation, and administration experience in either Oracle or SQL Server including their data migration and integration utilities.
3. A track record in leading large complex data migrations between multiple source and target architectures.
4. Technical leadership to create and deliver the Logical Data Model and Physical Database design.
5. Additional experience of non-database file systems such as VSAM.

Preferred technical and professional experience

1. Good understanding of legacy programming languages such as COBOL.
2. Experience in scripting languages such as Perl, Python, and PowerShell.
3. Excellent client-facing skills, i.e., well-presented and good interpersonal skills.
