Job summary

This post will provide comprehensive data intelligence and analytical support to inform decisions and monitor services across Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals.

This post is based with the Corporate Information and Analysis team but will have strong links to the Care Groups and service improvement team. The post holder will work with a wide range of stakeholders to deliver comprehensive data analysis and expertise to support delivery of projects.

Main duties of the job
  • Act as a subject matter expert in relation to data and analysis.
  • Provide modelling e.g. capacity and demand, to help improve the efficiency of a service.
  • Provide up to date, accurate performance and outcomes intelligence, data and analysis in order to communicate with staff on operational, business and clinical matters relating to current and future service needs.
  • The post holder will require excellent technical and analytic skills in order to produce sophisticated accurate and robust statistics, intelligence with little / no direction on how to fairly & visually portray a situation.
  • Provide expert advice and analysis to a variety of teams across the Trust to support decision making.
  • Offer expert advice and guidance on data collection.
  • Develop strong relationships with external stakeholders to improve the quality of data collection and reporting.
  • The post holder will be required to manage projects; from scoping improvement opportunities, engaging others in the delivery of the work and fundamentally monitoring the 'so what?' factor to identify if changes have led to real improvements for patients.
  • Understanding of benefits realisation and ensuring that these are identified as part of any project, measures are developed to monitor benefits and support is given to ensure benefits are realised.

We also provide urgent care at our Urgent Treatment Centre located in St Helens town centre.

Specialist Regional Services: We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • GCSEs (A-C) in Maths and English and/or equivalent qualification and/or equivalent experience
  • Educated to degree level in numerate subject and/or equivalent qualification and/or equivalent experience
Knowledge & Experience
  • Significant experience working in a highly analytical environment
  • Experience of planning, organising workload to meet deadlines
  • Practical experience of managing and coordinating multiple projects/large pieces of work, with an understanding of project management methodology
  • Demonstrable ability to transfer skills to others and communicate effectively with stakeholders
  • Basic understanding of Improvement methodology such as lean, six sigma
  • Experience of capacity and demand modelling
  • NHS experience working with health-related data and processes
  • Staff management / supervisory experience
Skills
  • Proficient in statistical data analysis, including but not limited to; regression, correlation, analysis of variance and means, hypothesis testing and statistical process control
  • Advanced MS-Office skills especially Excel and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrable ability to communicate through effective report writing and presentational skills
  • Problem solving; analytical techniques and interpretation of data
  • Ability to work under pressure and produce high quality work to tight deadlines
  • Strong interpersonal team working and facilitation skills
  • Knowledge and use of Key Performance Indicators for project focus
  • Have a thorough understanding of NHS data sources, data definitions and data flows.
