Analytical Scientist In Training
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Booking and preparing laboratory samples (urine, swab, and blood).
- Daily operation of high-throughput serological and molecular analysers.
- Performing manual confirmatory assays.
- Supporting the Analytical Scientists' team in validation and verification processes.
- Acting as the first point of contact for laboratory technicians in the absence of a Pre-Analytical Team Leader or Analytical Scientist.
- Logging, resolving, and reporting problem samples.
- Reporting to and liaising with the Laboratory Manager and Pre-Analytical and Analytical Team.
- Ensuring continuous compliance with the Quality System and ISO 15189 accreditation.
- Participating in External Quality Assessment (EQA) and Internal Quality Assessment (IQA) programs.
- Maintaining laboratory records, including but not limited to quality control records, equipment records, nonconformance reports, and CAPA documentation.
- Conducting acceptance testing for all equipment, reagents, and consumables, and ensuring ongoing equipment functionality, including calibration and mapping.
- Maintaining a high degree of accuracy and precision in all methods and procedures by incorporating and promoting good laboratory practice principles.
- Adhering to laboratory policies, including but not limited to confidentiality, data protection, code of conduct, and waste disposal.
- Managing, validating, and receiving stock.
- Assisting Analytical Scientists in ensuring all maintenance, calibration, and servicing activities are completed correctly and on time.
- Performing general laboratory duties and housekeeping, including analyser maintenance and waste disposal.
- Keeping all laboratory work areas clean and organised.
- Handling and correctly disposing of confidential and hazardous waste streams.

Required Skills and Experience
- Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Biomedical Science, Life Sciences, or a related field.
- Experience working in a laboratory environment, preferably in a pharmaceutical or diagnostic setting.
- Proficiency in handling and preparing biological samples.
- Proficiency in maintaining laboratory records.
- Excellent attention to detail with a high level of accuracy and precision in laboratory work.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of quality management systems and compliance with ISO 15189 accreditation.
