Job Purpose/Overview

NATS Swanwick Centre is looking for Operations Assistants to provide a broad range of support activities to ensure the efficient running of the ATC operation.

The role is varied, interesting and exciting and includes handling requests from aerodromes, passing clearances and messages, coordinating with Air Traffic Controllers and working as a team to deliver a safe, dynamic air traffic service. You will need excellent accuracy, numerical and communication skills to record and maintain flight information.

This position is at the Swanwick Air Traffic Control Centre and will involve shift working to support a 24/7 operation.

Role and Responsibilities

• Providing support across the ATC Unit, the following tasks will be undertaken as agreed through the support staff strategy. Note the list is not exhaustive.
• Receiving and processing flight information
• Working closely with other operational staff to ensure a constant focus on safety exists through delivery of day-to-day tasks.
• Provide feedback as required within communication forums
• Support delivery of internal training plans, by providing training as directed by the management team.
• Achieve and maintain relevant skills within Centres operation and to meet operational demand
• Recognise and provide appropriate assistance in the event of any unusual circumstances or failures

To be successful in this role you will need to possess the following skills and attributes:

• Experience of working in a similar capacity within aviation industry is desirable but not essential
• Minimum of five GCSEs grades A - C to include maths and English
• Proven experience of capturing & recording data
• Strong numerical capabilities
• Excellent communication skills at all levels and good team player
• High attention to detail
• Ability to multi-task and work flexibly to meet various demands
• Good IT skills, predominantly Microsoft Office
• Flexible approach to working hours
• You will need to pass NATS pre-employment security clearance checks
