Advanced Specialist Occupational Therapist

Ancora House comprises of 26 beds across 2 wards, Indigo and Coral. Within the Tier 4 CAMHS service, there is also a specialist Eating Disorder Service (CHEDS) and Ancora CARE.

This role requires being professionally responsible for developing the Occupational Therapy provision to the Tier 4 CAMHS service (Cheshire and Merseyside) and ensuring it is needs-led, evidence-based, and in line with current legislation, values, and service principles.

To work using a high level of specialist expertise within the multidisciplinary teams across Tier 4 CAMHS, managing a defined caseload of service users with complex mental health and learning disability needs, providing core occupational therapy interventions that enable individuals to work towards a valued lifestyle and aim for optimum level of functional ability, including specialist training and advice to other team members and partner agencies.

Main duties of the job
  1. To undertake occupational therapy assessments for a specified caseload of service users addressing occupational performance, strengths, and skills deficits, enabling the service user in areas of self-care, productivity, and leisure.
  2. To collaboratively identify the goals of occupational therapy intervention with the service user as part of the overall care plan.
  3. To apply a high level of understanding of the effect of disability and provide training and advice on lifestyle changes to the client's physical, sensory, and social environment.
  4. To plan and implement complex individual and/or group evidence-based interventions/programmes of care, in collaboration with the service user, using graded activity to achieve therapeutic goals.
  5. To monitor, evaluate, and modify treatment for clients with complex needs in order to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of the intervention.
  6. To assess and actively manage individual, activity, and environmental risk to ensure the safety of the service user, self, and the wider public whilst recognising the right of the service user to take positive risks in promoting their recovery.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • Diploma or BSc in Occupational Therapy
  • Registration with Health Professions Council
  • Accreditation as Practice Placement Educator
  • Significant postgraduate training working towards a Master's degree in a speciality relevant to the post
  • Accreditation in Assessment and Motor Processing Skills or be willing to gain within 12 months of appointment
  • Current disability equipment training or be willing to gain within 6 months of appointment
  • Current C and R training or be willing to gain within 3 months of appointment
  • Relevant Master's Degree
  • CLAIT/European Computer Driving Licence or equivalent
  • Membership of Professional Body
  • First line leadership or management training
Knowledge and Expertise
  • Advanced clinical skills relevant to the speciality
  • Good knowledge of clinical governance and clinical audit/research
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good knowledge and awareness of current legislation and guidance pertaining to Mental Health services and its implications for Occupational Therapy
  • A good understanding of recovery concepts within mental health services.
  • Ability to work under pressure and set priorities
  • Good knowledge of effective care management and planning of treatment packages
  • Ability to manage own caseload and work as part of a team

Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years post-registration experience in Mental Health
  • Experience of working in a PICU/LSU multidisciplinary environment
  • Experience of supervising and supporting junior staff and students
  • Experience of using Staff Performance and Development Process
  • Documented evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Initiating and leading clinical audit
  • Experience of introducing new and innovative interventions
  • Experience of working as a Band 7
  • Minimum of 4 years post-registration experience
