Advanced Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis Practitioner (Physiotherapist)

• Be responsible for assessing issues on admission to and discharge from hospital, at outpatient appointments, and at annual review, including airway clearance, inhaled therapy, musculoskeletal (MSK) issues, exercise, urinary incontinence, and non-invasive ventilation, where necessary.
• Be a resource on physiotherapy assessments, treatments, and interventions, for the training, education, development, and support of others involved in CF care within network.
• In conjunction with other Therapy Band 7's and service lead staff, the role will support the delivery of operational management across The Children's Therapy Service.
• To participate in the out of hours respiratory Physiotherapy on-call rota for Oxford Children's Hospital.
• Actively contribute to the strategic aims of the Children's Therapies and Gait clinical service unit.

Main duties of the job

1. To be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of own professional activities.
2. To be responsible and accountable for the management and implementation of patient care programmes in the Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis physiotherapy setting and to input into Trust wide care programmes as appropriate.
3. To carry out assessment of patients as an autonomous practitioner, including those with highly complex presentations and to use clinical reasoning skills, knowledge of evidence based practice and advanced Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis expertise to determine appropriate care plans utilising specialist treatment skills and options.
4. To formulate accurate prognoses and recommend best course of intervention, developing comprehensive treatment / discharge plans.
5. To be responsible for patient care plans and to be consulted frequently for expert advice and guidance by junior and senior team members and other health care professionals both within and outside the Trust.

Job responsibilities

1. To be responsible, in conjunction with Acute Therapies Lead, for policy and continued service development for the Paediatric Cystic fibrosis service and to ensure that quality standards and effectiveness of patient care are continually monitored and improved.
2. To ensure that the service responds to national initiatives and policy within the framework of clinical governance including clinical effectiveness, evidence based healthcare, managing clinical risk and, research and development issues.
3. To contribute to the managerial matters of the department including the development and implementation of departmental policies, which may impact on the physiotherapy service.
4. To inform any concerns for competent use, repair and maintenance reporting of all electrotherapy equipment, gym equipment and patient appliances used within this service as indicated, ensuring that designated staff attain competency prior to use.
5. To be responsible for the daily management, supervision and co-ordination of the Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis service which may include staff appraisal, performance management, with support from the Acute Therapies Lead.
6. To oversee on a daily basis the delivery of Therapy intervention across the acute wards in the Children's Hospital.
7. To work in an environment where the work patterns may be disrupted by frequent demands from patients, clinical staff, students and administrative support staff and any emergency situations.
8. To provide statistics and analysis reports regarding the designated service using databases in an accurate and timely manner.
9. To skilfully and flexibly plan and manage own time and organise the Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis service to include patient care, training, and supervision, as required.
10. To support the Acute Therapies Lead, when indicated, in the management of staff disciplinary matters.
11. To contribute to the recruitment of staff, including short-listing of applicants and being a member of an interview panel, when required.

Person Specification

Essential and Desirable

• HCPC Registered
• Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
• Evidence of undertaking relevant validated/accredited courses at post graduate or master equivalent
• Evidence of Extensive post registration experience
• Experience of participating in Respiratory out of hours services
• Advanced skills in Paediatric respiratory care including Cystic Fibrosis
• Awareness of current evidence pertaining to Paediatrics, CF Physiotherapy and application to clinical practice
• Evidence of commitment to service development through co-creation
• Member of ACPCF and/or ACPRC
• Experience of presenting Regionally and Nationally
• Evidence of Experience in managing a Team
• Experience of supervising Junior staff/Students
