Advanced Mental Health Pharmacist - Education and Training

We have a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Pharmacist with a passion for education and development to join our friendly, established and respected team, in leading and developing the pharmacy education and training service provided to mental health services.

The main location for the job would be Kingsway Hospital Derby with the applicant expected to have a 40% WFH component; service need allowing.

We provide all our pharmacy staff with opportunities for development, including full funding for post-graduate qualifications in mental health pharmacy, including the certificate and diploma through Aston University, and independent prescribing qualification if required.

We are also open to applications of experienced Pharmacists from specialist acute backgrounds or primary care, who are willing to develop their psychiatric knowledge.

Main duties of the job

The roles and duties of this post include:

  • Plan, develop, organize, and lead the provision and evaluation of medicines and medicines management-related training within the department and across the Trust.
  • Be the lead Designated Supervisor to Trainee Pharmacists.
  • Act as a Designated Prescribing Practitioner (DPP) to Trainee Pharmacists and support development of DPPs within the pharmacy workforce.
  • Educating colleagues about medicines management and medicines optimisation.
  • Lead on the provision of the Five Year Foundation Trainee Pharmacist program for DHCFT.
  • Provide supervision, mentorship, and assessment of pharmacy colleagues.
  • Collaborate with education and training colleagues with East Midlands to share best practice and contribute to regional education standards and strategies.
  • Develop close working relationships with other members of the multi-disciplinary team and contribute to clinical care plans.
  • Respond to medication-related queries, provide advice on prescribing and promote evidence-based practice.
  • Discuss medication with patients and carers and develop a variety of approaches to support informed care.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • GPhC registration.
  • Postgraduate mental health pharmacy diploma OR a postgraduate diploma in clinical pharmacy and equivalent experience.
  • Teaching qualification.
  • Post-graduate mental health pharmacy qualification (or equivalent experience and accredited membership of a relevant professional body).
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.

Skills

  • Able to act as a Designated Supervisor as per GPhC requirements (minimum 3 years qualified).
  • Evidence of ongoing Continuing Professional Development.
  • Discuss options and negotiate alternatives with other healthcare professionals to support medicine optimisation.
  • Competence in using the EMIS pharmacy system.

Knowledge / Experience

  • Hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Experience of mentoring or supervision of others.
  • Knowledge of current and future education and training national initiatives in pharmacy.
  • IT literate.
  • Experience of working under pressure and to tight deadlines.
  • Experience in motivating or influencing others.
  • Experience in critical evaluation of professional and academic literature.
  • Experience of line management.
  • Experience of working across departmental and organisation boundaries to deliver specific targets and improve services for patients.
  • Knowledge of mental health medications and therapeutics.
  • Experience working as a Designated Supervisor / Pre-registration tutor.
