Qualifications

Job description

Role

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an Advanced Clinical Practitioner to join our trauma and orthopaedic team. The role will require the successful clinician to work within the four pillars of Advanced Practice which includes:

  1. Clinical management of patients (autonomous assessment/investigation/diagnosis and management to include non-medical independent prescribing).
  2. Leadership – lead on service developments and implementing change processes, provide clinical leadership to MDT members.
  3. Education - provide education, mentorship and support to a wide multi-professional audience. Maintain own education needs and a live portfolio of advanced practice.
  4. Research - demonstrate use of evidence-based practice and involvement in research projects (QIP/Audit).

The job is open to fully trained ACPs from multi-professional backgrounds. We are also willing to consider those who require full ACP training, and in this instance, Annex 21 will be applied to the post.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

The ACP will be expected to provide clinical care/management to patients admitted into acute areas including trauma wards, emergency department and outpatient setting.

Maintain a portfolio of AP to demonstrate the four pillars of advanced practice.

Clinical

Will be expected to undertake clinical assessment, request relevant investigations, make diagnosis and initiate treatment and management plans according to patient need, including non-medical independent prescribing. They will be required to undertake patient ward rounds as an independent clinician. They will be expected to support effective communication between teams, MDT and patient/relatives. To undertake higher level communication - impart bad news and discuss treatment escalation plans and DNACPR.

Leadership

Clinical leadership of MDT. Develop the trauma orthopaedic services. Develop QiPs, attend and be an instrumental part of relevant HB strategy groups or forums e.g., Enhanced, Advanced and Consultant Forum for CTM.

Education

Be responsible for own educational needs, striving to enhance and develop own skills, knowledge and competence. Maintain a live portfolio of evidence. Deliver education within the clinical setting and formal education settings. Provide mentorship and coaching to multi-professionals undertaking clinical courses such as MSc AP and NMIP.

Research

Use guidelines to support clinical decisions in practice. Be involved in audit/research. Lead QiP projects and service evaluations.
