Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic and skilled HCPC registered Advanced Biomedical Scientist specialising in Biochemistry to join our dynamic Blood Sciences department.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work in a highly regarded healthcare setting, delivering essential diagnostic services that directly impact patient care. As an Advanced Biomedical Scientist, you will play a pivotal role in the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services within our Biochemistry team.
A presentation will be required as part of the recruitment process and there is an expectation that the post holder will support in the delivery of a 24/7 laboratory service.
Main duties of the job- Responsible as lead Biomedical Scientist for a specialist area.
- Manages and coordinates the day-to-day activities of the team.
- Leads on service improvement.
- Processes specialist investigations and is responsible for the standard and quality of results.
- Provides specialist advice to clinicians regarding the appropriateness of tests and timescales.
- Provides specialist service e.g. training, advanced troubleshooting, problem-solving for specialist requirements.
- Works flexibly in reflection of service needs which may include an extended working day and/or participation in delivery of a 24-hour, 7-day per week service.
- Maintains and promotes the professional image of both Pathology and CUH Trust.
- Works safely as the job entails coming into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues, and hazardous chemicals.

Person SpecificationQualificationsEssential- HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist.
- Biomedical Science Degree or equivalent.
- MSc in Biomedical Science or related subject.
- Additional appropriate specialist qualification if required, e.g., higher specialist diploma (IBMS).
- Evidence of Continual Professional Development.
Desirable- Holds or is working towards a qualification that supports management responsibilities such as a certificate in Quality Management, Training, or Leadership.
ExperienceEssential- Experience of Pathology IT systems.
- Experience of Quality Management Systems.
- Experience of training and supervision of staff.
- Substantial practical experience of working in a Biomedical Science laboratory.
Desirable- Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS at a senior level.
- Experience of performing incident investigations, audits, and risk assessments.
KnowledgeEssential- Theoretical knowledge of Biomedical procedures.
- Specialist knowledge of Blood Sciences - particularly Biochemistry and/or Haematology.
- Knowledge of Pathology IT systems.
- Knowledge of Quality Management Systems.
- Demonstrable understanding of ISO15189.
Desirable- Knowledge of HR policies.
SkillsEssential- Willingness to undertake cross-training to extend skill set to deliver role.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
