Job Summary

This post involves a variety of admin tasks associated with making appointments across a range of modalities, liaising with patients, GPs, Clinicians and colleagues to ensure the best service for our patients.


Main duties of the job
  1. Friendly, approachable and committed to providing face to face quality customer care / delivering excellent customer service.
  2. Ability to work under pressure in a very busy department.
  3. Effective interpersonal skills and ability to communicate accurately verbally and in writing with a wide range of people.
  4. Able to use own initiative to resolve routine queries, in line with departmental procedures.
  5. Knowledge of NHS Practices/Procedures Clinical/Service knowledge.
  6. Able to work with minimal supervision following set procedures.
  7. Ability to prioritise workload.
  8. Able to work to deadlines.
  9. Flexible approach to work and adaptable to change.
  10. Ability to work as a member of a team.
  11. Knowledge of computer packages: Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint.
  12. IT skills.
  13. Knowledge of Data Protection and Caldicott Principles and understanding the requirement to maintain confidentiality.
  14. Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality.

About Us

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities
  1. Accurately checking and entering information onto the Radiology systems.
  2. Handling queries, liaising with other departments and colleagues when necessary.
  3. Liaising with secondary care staff, GP surgeries etc. to solve queries.
  4. Processing referrals ensuring waiting time targets are met.
  5. Liaising with Colleagues across the Trust to ensure best utilization of appointments.
  6. Assisting with general admin tasks to support the department.
