The Company: Roberts & Prowse based in Elgin Ind Estate, Swindon, Wiltshire are a Mechanical and Electrical Services Contractor who operate throughout the Home Counties, South West & South East of the UK. Due to sustained success and growth, we are recruiting for an Accounts Assistant to join our busy team.

The Role: We are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Accounts Assistant to support the Accounts team within our Swindon Head Office. This role offers a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to progress their career within a supportive, team-focused environment.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Accounts Payable: Processing supplier and subcontractor invoices, maintaining accurate purchase ledger records and assisting with supplier and subcontractor payments.
  • Accounts Receivable: Raising sales invoices, updating the sales ledger and assisting with credit control procedures.
  • Bank and Credit Card Reconciliations: Assisting with regular reconciliations to ensure accurate financial records.
  • Intercompany Transactions: Supporting the recording and reconciliation of intercompany balances.
  • CIS and VAT Returns: Assisting in the preparation and submission of VAT and Construction Industry Scheme returns in line with HMRC deadlines.
  • Payroll Support: Providing administrative assistance for payroll processing when required.
  • Centralised Buying: Assisting with supplier purchase orders and raising jobs on our internal software (Eque2).
  • General Accounts Admin: Filing, data entry, archiving and supporting the wider accounts team with ad hoc tasks as needed.
  • Software Proficiency: Working with Sage Line 50 and MS Excel for day-to-day finance operations. Sage Job Costing experience is desirable but not essential; Eque2 Construction Accounting software experience is desirable.

The Person: To succeed in this role, you should be organised, enthusiastic and eager to build your career in accounting. You will work closely with our experienced accounts professionals and gain hands-on experience across a wide range of accounting tasks.

Key attributes and qualifications include:

  • Previous experience in an accounts or finance support role is desirable.
  • AAT Level 2/3 or equivalent qualification (or currently working towards) would be an advantage.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Accounts Software as listed previously.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
  • A proactive and team-oriented attitude.
  • Must be able to successfully achieve (BPSS) Baseline Personnel Security Standard military clearance.
  • A full UK driving licence is essential for this role, as occasional travel may be required.
