About Us:

Charlton Athletic Football Club is an English professional association football club based in Charlton, south-east London. The club was founded on June 9th, 1905 and has a storied history from rising to the top-flight of English Football in the 1930s (First Division) and again in the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s, to winning the FA Cup in 1947 and returning to their Valley home in 1992. The women's team played under Charlton Athletic from 2000 to 2007 before becoming independently run. In February 2021, the club acquired the Charlton Athletic Women's team, turning it full-time professional.

Currently, our men's first team competes in League One, and our women's team competes in the Women's Championship, the second highest division of women's football in England. At Charlton, we are 'one club' and can be truly described as a 'family club'.

Role Description:

The post holder will effectively manage the education for both the YDP and FDP phases to ensure that a balanced programme is achieved. This includes ongoing liaison and monitoring of all young players within their respective schools by gathering school reports three times per year. This will be achieved through face-to-face or email communication with the relevant teachers. Responsibilities include the day-to-day management of the Schoolboy Education program, providing on-site education support when necessary, and delivering life-skills workshops for parents and players.

Key Responsibilities (Education):

  1. Create a record of every young player's education progress and attainment through the gathering of school reports (3 x per year where possible).
  2. Establish specific links at school with relevant staff for every young player.
  3. Provide feedback to the school on the progress of the young player using the PMA on a 6/12 week basis.
  4. Devise a contact strategy to ensure each player's school receives correspondence.
  5. Ensure every young player is inducted, placed on the correct courses, and appropriately supported.
  6. Supervise and deliver education support when necessary.
  7. Be present at parent evenings where applicable.
  8. Adapt the programme according to player development and academic needs.
  9. Liaise closely with lead phase coach and U16 coach, maintaining up-to-date registers of attendance and training.
  10. Devise a life-skills education programme covering social media, rest, recovery, nutrition, and mental skills.

Key Responsibilities (Designated Safeguarding Officer):

All responsibilities relate directly to the new EFL Safeguarding Standards.

  1. Support the development and delivery of the Club's safeguarding strategy.
  2. Proactively safeguard and promote the welfare of children and adults at risk.
  3. Report and manage safeguarding concerns in line with club policies.
  4. Maintain high-quality and confidential records of incidents.
  5. Ensure compliance with EFL's Safeguarding Standards.
  6. Identify safeguarding training needs and facilitate training.
  7. Ensure all staff/volunteers have appropriate DBS clearance.
  8. Maintain appropriate policies for identifying and reporting concerns.
  9. Build and maintain relationships with external agencies.
  10. Conduct visits to at-risk young players and families.
  11. Support the design and delivery of the Academy's champions program.

MAIN JOB REQUIREMENTS AND PERSON SPECIFICATION

Education/Qualifications/Training:

  1. Educated to degree level (essential).
  2. Up-to-date knowledge of Safeguarding policies and practice (essential).
  3. Up-to-date knowledge of recent DBS changes (essential).

Specific Experience:

  1. Teaching at secondary level education.
  2. An understanding of the 'elite' environment.
  3. Knowledge/experience of dealing with external agencies regarding the welfare of young people.

Abilities/Skills/Knowledge:

  1. Excellent communicator with young children and professionals.
  2. Organisational skills.
  3. Healthy interest in sport/football.
  4. Ability to work well as part of a team.

  1. This is a full-time role that includes work on weekends and evenings (negotiable).
