8A Senior Psychological Therapist / Systemic Therapist

Are you a senior psychological therapist passionate about supporting the needs of young people aged 18-25 years old to achieve better mental health, and those who care for them? If so, we would love for you to join us in our East Suffolk Young Adult Mental Health Service!

We are seeking an experienced, motivated, pro-active and passionate Senior Psychological Therapist to support the overall clinical leadership, clinical governance, and provision of high quality psychological therapies services to young adults accessing the East Suffolk (Ipswich) and Central Suffolk (Stowmarket) youth mental health services.

Main duties of the job

In addition to duties outlined within the job description, the postholder will play a pivotal role in:

  • Providing high quality supervision to psychological therapies staff.
  • Providing access to consultation and case discussion with MDT members.
  • Supporting the development and delivery of training and CPD opportunities for MDT members.
  • Working in conjunction with the teams' triumvirate leadership team to enable the provision of high quality psychological therapies in line with clinical pathways and evidence-based practice.
  • Be responsible for the provision of direct psychological therapies and manage own caseload. The expectation for an 8A role is that 60% of WTE hours are to be spent involved in client related activity, such as clinical appointments, consultations, associated meetings; and 40% of WTE hours are to be spent on staff and service related activities, such as: supervision, reflective practice, service improvement and development.

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • A registerable mental health qualification such as Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN), a registerable social work qualification such as Social Worker, or a registerable psychotherapy qualification such as Art, Drama, Music or Family Therapist
  • Postgraduate psychotherapy qualification such as PG Dip in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, MA Art Therapy, MA Drama Therapy, MA Music Therapy, MSc Family Therapy
  • Accredited practitioner status with the HCPC or relevant governing body
  • Evidence of Continuing Professional Development in Psychotherapies

Experience

  • Extensive clinical experience working in statutory services with at least 3 years experience post qualification as a Psychotherapist.
  • Highly specialised experience of developing and delivering specialised treatment packages with individuals and groups/families.
  • Experience in the supervision of practitioners in delivering Psychotherapies
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of patients whilst maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems. Substantial experience in managerial/clinical supervision of others casework.

Skills

  • Highly specialist, theoretical knowledge of Psychotherapy and the application of appropriate models of practice, according to client need.
  • Excellent communication skills with a range of people in a variety of both clinical and managerial settings.
  • Advanced knowledge of a Psychotherapies evidence based interventions used in the effective management of common mental health problems.
  • Ability to expertly manage a complex caseload.
  • Working knowledge of health legislation and current practice in mental health, including risk assessment and management.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of psychosocial interventions
  • An understanding of the policies and guidelines both local and national e.g. National Institute for Clinical Excellence Guidelines

Other

  • Ability to identify, and employ as appropriate, clinical governance mechanisms for the support and maintenance of clinical practice in the face of regular exposure to highly emotive and challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to teach and train others, using a variety of complex multi-media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic settings.
  • Ability to travel.
