2x Personal Care Assistants for a young man 51 hr/wk @ £13.15/hr in KT4 - FTE - £25.6k - WORCESTER PARK - KT4

Overview

I am a 27-year-old man who lives with Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), a progressive neuromuscular condition. I have been using a powered wheelchair since 2015. I am a determined individual who tries to make the most of life.

I studied Neuroscience at the University of Nottingham between 2015-2018 and MSc Science Communication at the University of Sheffield between 2018-2019. I worked in healthcare communications for 18 months, and I’m now doing a part-time 2-year distance learning MSc course in Sustainable Development at SOAS. I have also done work with different charities supporting people with DMD including the Pathfinders Neuromuscular Alliance.

I have a keen interest in healthcare, science, and being outdoors. Music is one of my passions, and I enjoy DJing and making music. I am also interested in watching sports, nature, gardening, design, reading, and sailing. It would be great to have a PA who shares these interests.

I am a sociable person who enjoys going out, but I also value my own space and quiet. My faith is important to me, so I am looking for a PA who respects or shares my beliefs.

Job Specification

I am seeking a PA who can support me in living an independent life while helping to reduce the anxieties and frustrations that DMD creates. I require support with daily tasks, personal care, domestic tasks, social outings, and general support.

Responsibilities include:

Personal Care: Showering/washing, dressing, toileting, hoist transfers, and overnight ventilation (including daily cleaning of the ventilator).
Domestic Tasks: Maintaining a clean environment, cooking, and food preparation.
Support with Daily Physiotherapy: Including stretching and hydrotherapy sessions.
Social Support: Assisting during outings and activities.
Driving: Driving (automatic) is essential for this role, as I have a Motability vehicle.
Experience: Previous experience in manual handling is necessary, but I can provide training on my specific needs.

Please note that the job specification may change over time as my condition progresses.

Work Hours and Pattern:

I am looking for 2 PAs who can cover 51 hours a week, with a maximum of 36 hours and a minimum of 15 hours, flexible in the evenings and weekends (mostly Sundays). The rate of pay is £13.15 per hour.

Example Work Patterns:

1 PA working 36 hrs, 1 PA working 15 hrs
1 PA working 25 hrs, 1 PA working 26 hrs
1 PA working 35 hrs, 1 PA working 16 hrs

Availability:
- Flexibility to work between 7:00 am – 20:00 pm.
- Ability to start from 07:00 am.
- Availability to work some evenings (Wed 18:30 – 11:30) and weekends (Sat 8:00 – 11:00 and Sundays 17:00 - 21:00/21:30 or 09:30 am - 12:30/13:00 pm).

Working patterns and start times can be flexible and agreed upon after discussion based on your availability.
