2nd Level Application Support Engineer

We are looking for an experienced technical engineer to join our growing Equities business. The platform you will be looking after is used by multiple trading desks servicing a diverse set of clients and instruments. As part of the wider platform team, you will be working closely with developers, along with technical, analysis, and testing colleagues. Investigation and resolution of the work items at hand will require competent technical skills and a keen intellect. The business is a growth area, with current investments taking place in all of the technology, business, and middle office areas.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Global support, including weekend availability to troubleshoot production-related issues and perform checkouts.
  • Expertise in operating Windows and Linux environments with a good command over any scripting language such as Shell, Perl, Python, etc.
  • Knowledge of configuration management systems such as Ansible.
  • Strong knowledge of CI tools such as Bamboo or Jenkins.
  • Ability to work both independently and in groups in an energetic, diverse environment.
  • Debugging the system and fixing production-related issues.
  • Handling complex operational tasks and recommending process and technology changes.
  • Building monitoring tools for production environments.
  • Expedient deployment of new systems, capacity planning, and support for increasing volumes and business growth.
  • Knowledge of networking and storage concepts.
  • Escalating/following up on permanent fixes for development-related issues.
  • Providing solutions for application automation.
  • Managing communication of system and application outages to the end users whenever required.
  • Resolving complex application and technical problems.
  • Building, testing, and installing software in Dev, QA, Prod/DR environments.
  • Supporting complex efforts involving analysis, design, development, and testing of various application components.

Desired Experience/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering, or Mathematics.
  • Previous career roles in Support Analyst coupled with experience within the Financial industry for at least 3+ years.
  • Expertise in operating Windows and Linux environments with a good command over any scripting language such as Shell, Perl, Python, etc.
  • Basic knowledge of infrastructure concepts.
  • Nice to understand DevOps tools such as Bamboo or Jenkins.
  • Hands-on experience in support of a real-time trading environment.
  • Knowledge of support applications that use high-performance messaging/middleware.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong knowledge of FIX protocol.

  • Good communication skills, including the ability to write clearly.
  • Able to function effectively as a member of a team.
  • Proactive with respect to personal and technical development.
