Lead Clinical Pharmacy Technician

£39,912- £48,635 pro rata

(including evening, weekend, on-call and public holidays commitment)

This position offers you the chance to make a meaningful impact leading the clinical pharmacy technician service at the Western General Hospital and contributing to the care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease within NHS Lothian.

About the Role

This post is an excellent opportunity for an experienced pharmacy technician to join our friendly clinical pharmacy team. We are looking for an enthusiastic and dynamic leader to work alongside an existing post holder in an expanded portfolio in partnership with lead clinical pharmacists, to spearhead the development of existing and new roles in this area for pharmacy technicians and pharmacy support workers. This role will:

  1. Play a key role in the day to day management and continued development and transformation of pharmacy technician and pharmacy support worker roles on the WGH site.
  2. Work alongside the other lead clinical pharmacy technicians across the NHS Lothian Pharmacy services to provide and lead high quality pharmaceutical services to NHS Lothian patients.
  3. Support the WGH Gastroenterology Pharmacy Team in day-to-day tasks including both outpatient work and inpatient work.
  4. Collaborate closely with a highly supportive Gastroenterology pharmacy team, committed to innovation and the development of Gastroenterology services.

About you

We’re looking for someone:

  1. Registered as a Pharmacy Technician with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  2. Hold a National Certificate in Pharmacy Services and Scottish Vocational Qualification Level 3 in Pharmacy Services or equivalent.
  3. Completed the HN unit: Procedures for Pharmacy Dispensary Checking Technicians or Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician Award (provided by Buttercups or NPA, 2019 or before) and HNC Pharmacy Services Development and Management or be able to demonstrate equivalent competence.
  4. Hold a recognised work-based assessor’s certificate. (If a certificate has not already been achieved, it is required to be obtained within 24 months of starting in the position.)

Gastroenterology at the Western General Hospital site provides high quality care to patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), nutritional care needs and other gastroenterology conditions across inpatient and outpatient areas. The gastroenterology unit comprises of a 17 bedded ward attached to an outpatient infusion suite for administration of biologic medicines and an outpatient department responsible for around 2000 IBD patients advanced therapy medicines.
