Job description

The Art & Design programme at Bromley Schools' Collegiate is designed to develop your skills as an Art teacher, equipping you to inspire and guide students through creative expression. The course blends hands-on teaching experience with the exploration of art theory, enabling you to nurture students’ technical abilities while fostering their creative potential.

You will learn to teach across a wide range of artistic practices, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art. The programme also encourages critical thinking about art, its history, and its place in society. Your experience will include two placements, offering opportunities to take on increasing responsibility as you grow in your role.

Key Focus Areas:

The course covers key aspects of Art & Design education, from developing basic techniques in drawing and painting to exploring contemporary practices like digital media and graphic design. You will guide students through the creative process, helping them generate ideas and develop their artistic voice. Additionally, you’ll support students in creating portfolios for exhibitions, building their critical thinking skills around art history, and preparing them for assessments.

You’ll be trained in using both traditional and digital media, preparing students for a wide range of future opportunities in the creative industries. Your placements will provide the chance to apply your learning in real classroom environments, gradually taking on more responsibility as you plan and deliver lessons.

Mentoring and Support:

Throughout your training, you will be supported by experienced mentors who will offer guidance and feedback, helping you refine your teaching techniques and build your confidence in the classroom.

Bursaries & Scholarships:

Eligible applicants can receive a £10,000 bursary, and there are also DfE scholarships available for high-calibre students, which come with additional professional development opportunities.

Entry Requirements:

To apply, you’ll need a degree (minimum 2:2) in Art & Design or a closely related field. GCSEs in English and Maths (C/4 or above) are also required. No prior classroom experience is necessary, although any work with young people is helpful.

Fees:

  • QTS only: £8,000
  • QTS with PGCE: £9,200 (These fees are fixed for September 2025)
