Job Title: 1:1 Behaviour Support

Location: Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in London Borough of Lewisham

Contract Type: Contract

Daily Rate: £85 - £115 (depending on experience)

Thriving Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) in London Borough of Lewisham is seeking a dedicated and experienced 1:1 Behaviour Support / Behaviour Mentor to join their team. This position is suitable for someone looking for either a part-time or full-time role, but you must be available to start immediately!

The successful candidate will work with students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups to support their social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs, including those with Autism, ADHD, and complex behavioural needs. This role requires a proactive individual with a strong understanding of behaviour management and classroom support.

You will support in the classroom and build a strong rapport with children, de-escalating challenging behaviour in a calm but assertive manner. Class sizes are small, typically up to 5 children per class.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, and complex needs.
  • Implement behaviour management strategies to promote a positive learning environment.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with students to encourage engagement and participation.
  • Work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and external agencies to develop and implement individualised support plans.
  • Monitor and record student progress, adapting strategies as necessary to meet individual needs.
  • Assist in the development of personalised learning programs tailored to each student's specific needs and abilities.
  • Support classroom activities and manage challenging behaviour using appropriate interventions.
  • Promote social and emotional development through targeted activities and interventions.
  • Maintain a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
  • Attend training sessions and professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in behaviour support.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Proven experience working with children and young people with SEMH, Autism, ADHD, and complex behavioural needs.
  • Strong understanding of behaviour management techniques and interventions.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and external agencies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Patience, resilience, and a calm approach to challenging situations.
  • Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, social work, or a related field are desirable.
  • Experience working in a PRU or similar setting is advantageous.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
