Description

We seek a Vice President of Engineering who will oversee the Engineering organization responsible for our SaaS offerings, collectively managing a team of approximately 100 engineers.

This role is integral in shaping the future of our technology and product development. We are seeking a customer-obsessed, visionary, results-driven engineering leader who can provide strategic direction, foster innovation, and drive the execution of our engineering initiatives. You will set clear goals, and ensure the timely delivery of high-quality SaaS products. You will directly report to the CTO and co-founder.

Key responsibilities

  1. Quality and Delivery: Establishes an engineering culture prioritizing prompt delivery, unwavering commitment to quality, dedication to customer and business value generation, and continuous vigilance over production processes.
  2. Technical Leadership: Provide technical vision, guidance, and expertise to the engineering team, ensuring alignment with the company's strategic objectives.
  3. Team Management: Recruit, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and innovation.
  4. Technology Strategy: With the CTO, shape and execute a technology roadmap that supports the company's growth and innovation, staying current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  5. Cross-functional collaboration: Collaborate closely with other departments, such as Product Management, Design, and Operations, to drive product development and ensure seamless product launches.
  6. Scalability: Establish operational practices that ensure the high availability, scalability, and performance of all services across the extensive product portfolio, fostering an unwavering commitment within teams to meet these quality standards and deliver an exceptional user experience.
  7. Organization: Develop and implement effective organizational structures and workflows within the engineering department to ensure efficient resource allocation, streamline decision-making processes, and align with strategic goals.
  8. Budget Management: Manage the engineering budget, allocate resources effectively, and make data-driven decisions to maximize ROI.
  9. Risk Management: Identify and mitigate technical risks that could impact product development or the company's ability to achieve its goals.
  10. Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of continuous improvement, embracing feedback, and fostering a mindset of innovation and efficiency.

Qualifications

The skills we require

Experience in the following areas is mandatory:

  • Proven track record of successful leadership in a senior engineering role within a technology-driven organization.
  • Strong technical background with software development, architecture, and system design expertise.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
  • Experience in building and scaling engineering teams of at least 100 people in a fast-paced startup environment.
  • Exemplary at management mechanisms that empower teams to deliver high output autonomously without being involved in every decision.
  • Expertise in systems measurement and instrumentation, a firm believer in “measure everything.”
  • A strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision with short-term goals.
  • Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions and manage budgets effectively.
  • Experience with agile development methodologies and modern software development tools and practices.
  • Experience making difficult priority trade-offs, advocating for projects in business and customer-friendly terms, and developing this practice at every level of your organization.
  • Passion for technology, innovation, and staying current with industry trends.
  • Strong high-scale, high-availability operating expertise, including testing / deployment, monitoring, DevOps practices, and creating a culture of caution on behalf of customers.
