The OECD has earned a leading role in Trade and Agriculture. The Trade and Agriculture Directorate (TAD) provides relevant and timely information and advice to support the efforts of governments to improve the domestic and international performance of their trade, agriculture, food and fishery policies.

The Agriculture and Resource Policies Division (ARP), which analyses agriculture and fisheries policies, is looking for a Statistician to support its activities on the monitoring of policies impacting on the economic performance of agriculture. The chosen candidate will carry out the full cycle of statistical activities from data collection, data management and analysis, to data dissemination for specific statistical subject matters.

Job Description

Main responsibilities

  • Contribute to the management of the database on agricultural support and protection data, maintain, enhance and develop data processing routines, ensuring accuracy and consistency of indicators and databases.
  • Verify the accuracy, completeness, coherence, quality and internal consistency of the data and metadata, investigating anomalies in collaboration with other statisticians and analysts.
  • Assist country desk officers with questions regarding PSE / CSE data and associated checks.
  • Collect additional data from international databases and incorporate them into internal statistical databases.
  • Prepare publication manuscripts, including graphs, tables, charts, and maps, as well as initial drafting of text and occasional proofreading.
  • Check data, graphs and tables.
  • Prepare and publish PSE / CSE data on the OECD data warehouse.

Analysis, methodology, drafting and documentation

  • Provide analysts and economists with ad-hoc analyses, written content, charts and tables.
  • Respond to the changing needs of users by contributing to statistical development work.
  • Develop and maintain documentation on work procedures covering all aspects of the production cycle.

IT work and other tasks

  • Develop and adapt computer programs and procedures in SAS / Altair, Python and possibly VBA.
  • Assist in the review of data processing routines and identify opportunities to enhance data and information management approaches.
  • Prepare data files used in dissemination and data visualisation outputs for documents, publications, external databases and website.
  • Carry out statistical work in support of the wider analytical work of the Directorate.

Representation and liaison

  • Collaborate and co-ordinate with other relevant directorates of the OECD, when required.

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Profile

Academic Background

  • A Master degree or equivalent, preferably in statistics, economics, mathematics, engineering or a scientific field.

Professional Background

  • At least one to three years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience in applied statistics.
  • Experience in the production and use of statistics including documentation on sources, definitions, coverage, methodology, reliability and comparability.
  • Basic experience in the analysis of macro-and micro-level data and / or knowledge of key areas such as agriculture, trade, energy, education, environment, national accounts, transport.
  • Experience in the programming of data processing routines.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts and applied econometric techniques.
  • Experience in data visualisation and presenting statistical results.

Tools

  • Very good command of SAS and Altair in managing large data sets required.
  • Good knowledge of Python; knowledge of Visual Basic programming would be an asset.
  • Excellent command of Microsoft Office software, especially Excel and Access.
  • Good knowledge of large statistical databases and practical experience with statistical software.

Core competencies

  • OECD staff are expected to demonstrate behaviours aligned to six core competencies which will be assessed as part of this hiring process.

Languages

  • Fluency in one of the two OECD official languages (English and French) and knowledge of the other.

  • This vacancy should be filled as soon as possible, and applications should reach us no later than midnight 6 March 2025 (Paris time).

Contract Duration

  • Open-ended appointment, with no foreseen end date.

What the OECD offers

  • Depending on level of experience, monthly salary starts at 5,186 EUR, plus allowances based on eligibility.

Selection Process

For retained candidates, the selection process will include a statistical test, job-based assessment and panel interviews.
