Job Description
Touton SA is seeking a highly motivated Sustainability Coordinator to support and drive the development of the Group’s sustainability agenda for coffee, vanilla and other spices / ingredients, with a special focus on coffee sustainable project and strategy in East Africa.
The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Sustainability Group Director and in close collaboration with both the existing sustainability team and the traders. The position requires frequent travel to origins.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drive the adoption of sustainable traceable commodities in line with targets and client requirements; point of contact for certification queries and supplier verifications, coordination/preparation for external audits, support trade with requests, communications material and data, working alongside suppliers and origins in support of traceability and certification.
- Support work on projects: managing relationships with implementing partners, funders, clients and other stakeholders; monitoring implementation; coordinating submission of financial and narrative reports.
- Manage external stakeholder relationships and reporting needs as required and in adherence to platform initiatives, and represent the group in working groups/steering committees.
- Maintain up to date knowledge, keeping abreast of industry developments, legislation changes and identifying new risks and opportunities, to assist in adapting and furthering the Group’s sustainability agenda.
Preferred Experience:
- Held a previous sustainability role, ideally within agricultural or commodity trading business, sustainability consultancy or NGO.
- Good numeracy, analytical and research skills, demonstrable understanding of data collection and traceability.
- Strong inter-personal, written, and verbal communication skills; experience liaising with various internal and external stakeholders across multiple origins.
- Experience in creating, managing, and implementing project budgets and workplans, as well as reporting to various stakeholders.
- Knowledge of data management processes, tools and software.
- Ability to prioritise own workload and take a logical and measured approach to problem solving and in addressing complex issues.
- Experience in coffee industry (highly desirable) or other tropical commodities (necessary), certifications, supply chain engagement and auditing systems.
- English and French language skills required.
